The Chilean death metal warriors of Thornafire return after three years with a new record (their third on Ibex Moon Records) called "Eclipse Nox Coagula". Since 2009’s "Vorex Decontruccion" the band amicably parted ways with vocalist/bassist Alexis Munoz. He was replaced with Christian Argandona, who sounds a lot like Krisiun singer Alex Camargo. That’s about as much as Thornafire has changed in the interim. "Eclipse Nox Coagula" is still heavily indebted to the likes of early Immolation, Incantation and Asphyx. Like the preceding record this record is entirely written in their native Spanish in order to get their message across better. Thornafire still plays at their patented crushing midtempo with crunchy riffing and lively drumming. Where a lot of contemporary bands still focus too singularly on speed, Thornafire are all about creating an ominous and evil atmosphere. Obviously, they are much better because of that. This is a band that focuses on writing solid and engaging tunes instead of trying to outblast the competition. The album was once again recorded, mixed and mastered at Sade Studios, Santiago City by drummer Juan Pablo Donoso. The bass-heavy production is organic and gritty, quite similar to Immolation’s "Here In After" and "Failures For Gods" albums. Thornafire continue to be one of the better dark death metal acts on the scene today.
