Germany's Common Grave debut with "Dehumanized" – a record that does as much right as it does wrong. Wearing influences from Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation on their sleeve the band brings a violent form of political inspired US death metal. The material shreds, grooves and slams on regular intervals with torrents of blasts to boot. The vocal work is down the same line as "Tomb Of the Mutilated" or "The Bleeding" by Cannibal Corpse with hardcore riffs and slam rhythms similar to the standards set by Dying Fetus. While Common Grave has the chops to write something truly exceptional, it just doesn't fully show on "Dehumanized". All 9 tracks go through the expected twists and turns one has come to expect from this genre and hardly deviate from that formula. The absence of guitar leads takes this material down as well. Lay-out and subject matter deal with the current day state of world at large, and that's a good departure from the gore – and anti-religious gibberish that usually runs rampant in this genre. The record was produced and mixed by Stefan Fimmers and Muhammed Suicmez (Necrophagist) at Aexxys Art Studio in Schwandorf, Germany and was mastered at Iguana Studios by Christophe Brandes. Unspectacular artwork aside this is a good record for those who can't get enough of the genres popularized by Dying Fetus and Misery Index.
