Holy fucken shit. I don’t remember a lot in terms of metal about the year 2009, but I do remember this Greek death metal band Cerebrum. So, now they are apparently on Japanese label Amputated Vein Records. Odin knows what stupid shit is behind that label change, but the most important thing to remember is that “Cosmic Enigma” is the best death metal record you’ll hear this year. For fuck’s sake, why can’t more bands be like this? This is death metal, very inspired by Death and acts of similar ilk. Yeah, George Kollias drums on this one too, and is now apparently a full-time member as well. Oh, they have a new singer too, for those that care about that sort of thing. Well, he isn’t really new per se. It’s the guitarist that now sings too. I didn’t really notice it until I leafed through the production credits for this album. As with the debut “Spectral Extravagance” this new record plays mostly at midpace with jazzy sections and interesting riffs and chord progressions. This new record makes me think a lot of Atheist’s “Piece Of Time” and “Unquestionable Presence” in terms of arrangements and overall construction, even the funky bass playing is interesting and lively. The guitar leads and solos are more than commendable. One thing that should be said is that these cuts flow more fluidly and the technical bits don’t feel tacked on anymore. Everything is evenly distributed and the balancing act of tech and groove is now more natural than before. I preferred the debut album’s art better, but hey – can’t have ‘em all, right? So, yeah, this shit is plainly better than most turds that continue to be dropped by sorry labels such as Sumerian, Unique Leader or Sevared. Support the little guy, support this band. We all know the underground is fucken dead at this point, and every two-bit idiot is running a label out of their basement. This is the real deal, the genuine article. Death metal that is both technical and thoroughly “old school”. No pretense, just amazing music all around. That is heard far too less around these parts – and that is why I have decided to prematurely label this “album of the year”. I don’t care what you stupid kids and hipster douchebags think. Start your own fucken blog if you don’t agree with me. Geez.

...co do saksofonu to był to przypadek całkowity. Bo idąc coś zjeść do miasta napotkaliśmy kolesia który na ulicy grał na saksofonie. Zagadałem do niego żeby nagrał nam jakieś partie i zgodził się. Oczywiście nie miał pojęcia na co się porwał, do tego komunikacja nie była najlepsza, bo okazał się być obywatelem Ukrainy i język polski nie był dobry albo w ogóle go nie było...
