Masachist - Death March Fury After Yattering split in 2006 guitarist Trufel has kept himself busy with two new acts: the more black metal styled Azarath and Masachist, a full-on death metal combo that doesn't sound quite as chaotic and technical as his mother band. Featuring former and current members from Decapitated, Vader, Vesania and Shadows Land "Death March Fury" is a massive and demanding piece of death metal that gets down to business quick and doesn't leave a lot to be desired. Clocking in at a meager 26 minutes Masachist do not bother with unnecessary arrangements and all too complex and long winding song structures. Most tracks clock in around the three minute mark or sometimes even less with exception from 'Appearance Of the Worm'. This is a 6 minute long slow crusher with some serious groove. Tracks such as 'Malicious Cleansing', 'Open the Wounds' and 'Womb' show Masachist's more technical side with a multitude of twisted riffs and militant drumming. Masachist sound as mix between classic Florida and European death metal with Sauron's recognizable grunt and Daray's no-frills drumming style. The production of Progresja Studio is basic but decent, although it isn't too clean and overproduced. The artwork, design and lay-out by Eliran Kantor and Mentalporn is professional and eye-catching. The calligraphy font of the booklet is however hard to read and is somewhat comparable to Deicide's "The Stench Of Redemption". Overall, Masachist have written a good debut, although they hardly excel in sounding different from their peers. "Death March Fury" is a furious death metal record that does what it sets out to do, although it won't elevate Masachist out of the underground - something which not even an appearance by Immolation grunter Ross Dolan can change.
