Sadistic Intent

Wywiad przeprowadził - Andrzej Papież
Sadistic Intent is one of those bands that dissapear, remind about itself with a short release and again dissapear for years in the depths of the abyss. How many times have I read that their new album would be released so soon, soon.. 10 times? 20 time? The best way to ask about what is going on was to reach the source and make Rick Cortez tell me few things about Sadistic Intent.... Hails! Hope you’re ready to answer my questions?

"I’m ready."

What are the goals that Sadistic intenst stands for?

"Total fuckin’ death!!! I would say our message is freedom from religion, use common sense and think for yourself!"

Sadistic intent exists for over 15 years now. Are you satisfied with all that you gained with the band?

"Yes, I’m satisfied but we’re not done yet..."

Latest release from Sadistic intent I was able to listen was 7" from Iron Pegasus Records with a rare feature from Jeff Becerra of Possessed on guest vocals. Can you tell me something more about this ep and cooperation with Jeff? Is he still into Metal? What do you think about former Possessed drummer playing in Primus?

"I have been a fan of Possessed ever since "Seven Churches" was released!! So I must say it was a complete honor to record with Jeff Becerra! We basically got together on a Friday afternoon then rehearsed and celebrated the occasion that night! The next day we went into the studio and recorded "The Exorcist"! Being that Jeff was there, the partying continued but we managed to finish the recording. Jeff told me he did the song with us because he likes Sadistic Intent! So yes, he’s still into Metal!! About the former Possessed member in Primus, it was actually the guitarist Larry Lalonde. Anyhow, to answer your question, I have only heard a couple of songs from Primus and they are completely different from Possessed! Therefore, in that sense it’s a little strange to hear a former Possessed member play in a band like Primus. Nevertheless, I am not a fan of what I heard and it doesn’t really matter to me if Larry is in that band or not."

What about "Ancient black earth" ep? It supposed to be a promotional tape, but you decided to release it in the end. Why?

"We knew it would be sometime till we unleashed our up-coming full length so we released "Ancient Black Earth". In addition to that there were also rumors circulating that Sadistic Intent had broken up, so we felt that it was the right time for "Ancient..." to be released."

Sometime ago I read that you’re going to release debut album on Necropolis records. Will it be ever released??

We have encountered so many problems causing a major delay but we’re moving forward little by little. As far as Necropolis releasing it, when the time comes I guess we’ll see what happens..."

What more can you tell me about this album? What kind of sounds will feature on it? Old ones mixed with new ones? Who will release it finally? Any other record labels interested in it?

"Our album is titled "The Second Coming Of Darkness" and it shall contain a mixture of newer and older songs. For those aware of our style, it shall be a continuation of "Resurrection" as well as "Ancient Black Earth", but tighter and darker than ever!!! It shall contain a combination faster and slower tempos with an array of heavy riffs! The music shall be a journey into the dark eclectic realm of Sadistic Intent. We have several other labels interested but we’re currently signed to Necropolis Records."

Why Sadistic intent recorded so many cover songs? What you were followed by when you were chosing those bands and tracks?

"We’ve recorded three covers of the bands Slayer, Celtic Frost and Possessed. All three bands have their own unique style and being that we were inspired by all of them, we simply wanted to do our own versions of their songs. Slayer is from our hometown and they were the first extreme Metal band that we got into back in 1983! They certainly inspired Sadistic Intent with all their older releases up to "Reign In Blood"! I actually liked Hellhammer before Celtic Frost but after I heard "Morbid Tales", I feel they picked it up a notch! Possessed was another killer band and I still remember the first time I heard "Seven Churches", I was blown away! That was and still is Death Metal for me!! That release continues to be on my play list and having the opportunity to record with Jeff Becerra, we had to do it!"

You sent me some of posters and flyers about your gigs, and I must admit I am very surprised! Sadistic intent shared stage with really admitted bands!

"We’ve been on bills with many well known bands over the years. Some of the bands that come to mind are: Dark Angel, Exodus, Death, Venom, D.R.I., Destruction, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Entombed, Agent Steel, Dark Funeral, Cannibal Corpse, Dissection, Cradle Of Filth, Immortal, At The Gates, Usurper, Immolation, Destroyer666, Terrorizer, etc..."

Why it’s so hard to buy Sadistic intent releases and t-shirts in stores and mailorders?

"There have been a few stores and mailorders that have carried Sadistic Intent but I agree with your notion, we have always been very underground. Not that we are against distribution, we anticipate that our next album will be easier to find than our past releases."

You have your own metal shop Dark realm shop. Is it easy to run this kind of shop? Did you have any problems with thefts? What do you think...is it pardonable when devoted metal maniac steals latest release of his favorate band, because he haven’t enough money to buy it?!

"I wouldn’t say it’s easy running Dark Realm Records because it takes a lot of work and dedication which is very time consuming. I once said I spend at least eight hours a day on work here, now it’s more like twelve. As far as problems with theft, we used to have problems with some low lifes but we took preventive measures and the theft problem was taken care of. Ripping us off is not pardonable and they should be punished Middle Eastern style, chop off their fucking hands!!! Hahaha"

You also run a record label, Dark realm records. How the things are going in it? Any new signings?

"Things are going well! Things could always be better but we’re doing what we can to promote our releases. Our last two releases were by Pentacle "Ancient Death" and Witchmaster "Violence & Blasphemy"! Pentacle is from Holland and execute classic style Death Metal with cult conviction!! Witchmaster is from Poland and are total Satanic Thrashing Black Metal!! Our next release shall be from the legendary Possessed!!! We are going to release their demo from 1984!"

Dark realm recs released album of polish Damnation. How did you get in touch? What do you think about polish scene?

"One of our former partners got in contact with Damnation and being that we liked their dark Death Metal style, we released their CD! I don’t know all the details of the Polish scene but from what I’ve seen, it looks great! One of the first ‘zines from Poland that supported Sadistic Intent was Holocaust Magazine! Over a decade later I still see lots of Death/Black Metal coming out of Poland so I think that’s admirable!"

I was just wondering... If you have your own record label why don’t you simply release Sadistic intent albums through it?

"We did release a couple of Sadistic Intent titles, "Resurrection" and "Ancient Black Earth". After that, we were looking for a label with more distribution and that’s basically it."

You live near Los Angeles. Do you remember disturbances in your town in ’92?

"We actually live within L.A. County so yes I remember, now that was real brutality!! I recall chaos in the streets, people starting mass fires, looting, fighting, and even death!! It was crazy, there was different gangs walking around with shotguns and together all the looters outnumbered the police! Eventually the national guard (army) came in and the city was put under curfew. With all the troops and smoke in the air the city looked like a war zone! All that reminds me and ties in to the following. Aside from the ’92 riots, growing up here in Los Angeles we’ve seen lots of violence in the streets. Some of our friends are dead now because of that. Consequently I feel these experiences have helped build my character. Although I am glad to see more people stand up against religions, it’s interesting to see how some bands nowadays talk all tough about how "true" they are. Perhaps it sounds extreme but personally, I don’t like to pretend to be something that I’m not. I have seen true violence and death, and I know the possible repercussions. I walk the left hand path in the search of wisdom and indulgence, not for irrationalness detrimental to my self."

What bands have you listened lately? Any newcomers worth checking out?

"I always listen to the classic stuff because it never fails me! As far as new stuff lately, some bands are newer than others but anyway, here’s a few that come to mind at the moment. Azarath, Pagan Rites, Desaster, Pentacle, In Aeternum, Destroyer666, Aborym, The Chasm, Repugnant, Mortem, Kaamos, Thornspawn, Impiety, Bloodstorm, etc."

What are your future plans? Both band and record label?

"Carry forward to put out more releases and do our best to keep the essence of Extreme Metal alive. Being that Dark Realm Records is also a record shop, we plan on keeping it open and continue spreading the blasphemy!"

OK, thanx for interview! Any last words for polish fans?!

"Thank you for the support throughout the years! Stay dark and away from trends..."
