Deathchain
Wywiad przeprowadził Andrzej Papież
Thrash in cold Finland? Why not!! Deathchain comes from the frozen land, drinks vodka and kills with their thrash fucking metal. I was talking with Bobby Undertaker, the mainman behind the band. My woman told me to stop messing around and come to her... so I leave you with finish thrashfucker... Hope you’ll enjoy reading this as I was enjoying happy giving her a head... Thrash fuckers!!
Thrash!! How many beers did your drink today?
"Actually none, I'm still a bit hangover from last night."
I was quite suprised with your debut album "Deadmeat disciples". I haven't heard so well played thrash metal for ages! I thought that this kind of music in not so popular in Finland... For many metalheads your country associates with pop-metal bands as Sentenced and Nightwish... Is it hard to be Thrasher in Finland?
"Thanks for the complement. Thrash or deathmetal is not very popular in Finland, but there are a lot of death/thrash bands today. The bands you mentioned like Nightwish and Sentenced, they always hit the charts when they come out with a new album. But so did Finnish grindcore band Rotten Sound. Of course not so high position, but still that was a great thing. Death or thrash is not a mainstream thing in Finland, but we have a lot of good magazines that supports all kinds of metal. And many foreign brutal metal bands comes to play here in Finland, because they know that Finnish people are into metal for sure. It's not hard to be a thrasher in Finland. Finland is a metal country, we have lots of great bands here."
"Deadmeat disciples" becomes an album of the month in Masterful magazine. It's the best last year thrash metal album in my opinion. Are you satisfied with other reviews and opinions? How the whole scene carried your debut?
"Thanks man! We are really satisfied and surpriced of all the feedback we've received about
"Deadmeat Disciples". And it's not only here in Finland but it seems that people dig it everywhere, so it's great man! I think the scene needs something like us and it seems to be that way."
"Deadmeat disciples" is wery raw and brutal album. Short, aggressive and very powerful. Where your aggression comes from?
"I think it comes out naturally when you play this kind of music. When we started the band we knew what we wanted the music to be: fast and aggressive like a fucking fist on your face. Death and thrash metal combined. If you play death or thrash or anykind of extreme metal, you have to sound brutal, there's no other way."

You released this album through independent Dynamic ars records. It's not big record label, but I suppose you're satisfied with their work. What kind of men stand behind this label?
"We'll it's not very big a label but they've been good for us. They've done a great job all the way, as much as the label that big is able to do. Of course they don't have as much money to put on promotion like bigger labels do. Dynamic Arts Records is managed by two men who live here in Finland and the other one really near to us. That's the one reason we chose Dynamic Arts. It's easy to arrange things with them 'cos they're nearby and easy to reach by phone. They started small but they've grown all the way and they sign new bands all the time. At the time we are really happy with them and we are gonna make the next record with them for sure."
I hadn't opportunity to see you guys live. Are you kind of "standing and playing" band or maybe you are "crushing stages and fucking grooupies maniacs from hell"??
"When we hit the stage it's nothing but aggression and headbanging thru the set. Nothing is more boring than look a metal band on stage just standing and playing like some fucking cabaree band. We give 110% everytime and when we play, you can see we love it loud. What comes to groupies, heh, well we all have girlfriends back home so that's about it."
How many vodka and amphetamine uses your drummer? He's fast as hell!!
"He uses booze like any healthy Finnish drummers, but he don't do drugs. He's a great drummer but it all comes from hard training and not from booze."
Did you play in any bands before Deathchain? On "Deadmeat disciples" you definitly proved that you know how to use your instruments...
"Some of us had some bands and some didn't. But we've all played a long time and experienced with the music we play. But we still have a lot of work to do in order to achieve the level and standard of playing which we hope."
Why the hell is your logo so similar to Destruction's one?! ;-)
"It just came out that way. Actually we are going to use a new logo in the future, it's already done and it's not similar with Destruction or Maiden logo anymore."
What albums do you listen lately? Any recommendations? Maybe something interesting from Finland?
"I've listened the latest Motörhead, Inferno. It's a fucking killer. And of course the latest Kind Diamond live album. If you wanna check out some great Finnish albums, check out these:
De Lirium's Order - Victim No. 52 (great melodic deathmetal band and Corpse in vocals!)
Swallow the Sun - The Morning Never Came (if you're into doom, this is it)
Machine Men - Scars & Wounds (you must check this one! traditional heavy, insane vocalist!)"
I know that you're going to release new split album. Hope you won't give up your speed!
"It's still fast of course, don't worry! It has two brand new songs from us called "Morbid Mayhem" and "Unleash The Fury". They're a bit different from what we've done before but it's still pure Deathchain. It's gonna be an old school 7" split with another great band from the same label called Deathbound."
Ok, thanx for your answers, all the best for Deathchain! Thrash till death!
"Thanks for the support man and hopefully we'll see you on gig sometime! Stay metal!"
