Wywiad przeprowadził Andrzej PapieżOver a year ago Danish death metallers recorded "Berzerker legions", which was one of the best metal albums of 2001. The band just left Hammerheart records and signed to french Osmose. I talked with Sigtyr – Exmortem guitarist who just finished mixing of "Berzerker legions" follower. Hi Sigtyr. Exmortem just recorded "Berzerker legions" follower. How did the recording session proceed?

"It went pretty smooth, we used 14 days for the recordings and 3 days for the mix. And it sounds really great, our best album so far for sure!! The tracks are a bit more varied and dynamic so to speak. This album is darker and more obscure than "Berzerker Legions" and it is surely the most unique we have made yet. This time we did things a bit different than usual. Normally we record drums, then guitars and then bass etc.. but this time we recorded the drums and then we finished one or two tracks at a time with guitars, bass and vocals and so on. That was a really great way to work, cause then we could see how things progress and find out if something should be changed etc..."

What new album will be like? Is it possible that it will be more brutal and more intense then previous one?!

"It's darker and has a more unique feeling I think. It's still really intense, but in another way than "Berzerker" was. We have managed to create a really extreme feeling on this album and Simons vocals are really powerful!!"

When "Pestilence Empire" will be available?

"It depends on when the cover and so on will be finished, but around New Year I would say, if we are lucky it will come a bit earlier..."

You left Hammerheart records and signed to Osmose. Why? Weren't you satisfied with Hammerheart works?

"Our cooperation with HHR didn't work out, since they had some financial problems or so. Anyway, I 'm really satisfied with the shift from HHR to Osmose, cause I'm sure that they will do a lot more for Exmortem!"

Do you know new signing in Osmose - polish Lost soul?

"Yeah I have heard a few songs from their new album, fast Polish Death Metal like we know it!!. I also know some other polish bands like Decapitated, Devilyn, Dissinter, Dies Irae (a lot of D band names hehe), Behemoth and of course Vader etc..."

Lets get back to "Berzerker legions" times. do you remember even one bad review of this album? I think that with this album you conquered many lands and souls!

"I think that Digitalmetal gave us a bad review cause they said we sounded too much like morbid Angel..haha. Otherwise we have got extremely great reviews everywhere and we are of course very proud of the great response we got!! I look forward to see how people will react on this new album!!"

In many "Berzerker..." reviews I read comparisons to Morbid angel and Marduk. Would you agree with it? Will there be more influences of those bands on "Pestilence empire"?

"Well, we have all been fans of Morbid Angel, so there is of course some influence to be seen there I guess. I don't know about Marduk, do people really think that we sound like them??! Anyway, I try to make my style more personal all the time, but I almost only listen to extreme metal, so it's my biggest inspiration of course. The new album is more Exmortem than anything else!!"

Your drummer Reno left Exmortem ... I've heard that he wanted to rehersal more than half a day... so he's drum monster, I think :-) Does he play in other band now?

"I don't know what he is up to and I don't really care either. I'm just glad that I don't work with him anymore."

I think you toured a lot during the "Berzerker legion". Which shows were the greatest, and why those? Do you remember any funny situations from concerts - tour?

"We actually didn't tour that much unfortunately. We hope to tour a lot more with the new album out on Osmose!!!!! Our best show must have been in Kritiandsand in Norway."

Do you remeber famous tv- series about Olsen gang? We still can watch them here in Poland!

"Yeah sure they are "classics" here in Denmark and they still send them from time to time. I have seen them a lot of times when I was a little kid hehe."

Sigtyr, I saw Exmortem old photos and you had long hairs those years. Why did you decide to cut them?!

"Cause every morning when I woke up I fucking hated that long shit that was hanging from my head hehe!! I actually thought that it was a pain in the ass, so one day I just cut it off and I have never regret it!!"

What do you do in your normal life except playing in this extreme metal band? Are kids affraid of you?!

"Right now I'm looking for a new job. I do some layout stuff and will also make the layout for our new album. I have made the cover, so now I am working on the booklet etc.. I will soon start my own record label again and I have signed a Danish Black Metal band called Ad Noctum, really fast and intense stuff."

In the end I would like to know your future plans... When will you become nu-metal band? :-)

"Well, I think that on our next album we will have rap mixed with clean vocals etc haha, nah that shit can fuck of! We will try to tour as much as possible!! And apart from that, we will continue to make more Extreme Death Metal!!"

All the best with Exmortem!! Keep on kicking and thanx for your interview!

"Thanks a lot for this Interview as well, I'm rather busy getting the album done, so some of the answers might have been a bit short...I hope that some of your readers has gotten interested in Exmortem now!!
