Mucupurulent
Wywiad przeprowadził Bartosz Donarski
These guys definitely took me by surprise! German Mucupurulent is eminent my folks! The grinding rockers have just released their new output via native to them Morbid Records and bitten our asses with keen teeth of musical expression. The fresh one is called "Soul Reaver" and showcases still unexplored regions of audible delights. This album fucking rock! The production is killer, the arrangements are catchy and the fury is untamed! Get it now, or just ask your mom for another portion of cereals!
Holy shit, buddy! This album fucking rocks! I actually heard a lot good words on you from CBT staff as I know the insane fucks personally. But let's get down to the music you committed on "Soul Reaver". Initially I thought you sort of played grind, but to my surprise it seems like you have a lot more to offer, and I really like it! Then, how could you describe the vibe of the music to all the unaware folks?
Ralph: "Well, it's a kind of grind and roll, for there are several fast and brutal parts, but in the main there are those groovy and rocking riffs and drums, all mixed up with a gory deep voice."
Tell me know please how have you actually entered into a contract with my favorite Morbid Records?
"We've played 2 times at the "bizarre festival", organized by morbid, and once at the Obscene Extreme in the Czech Republic. So we got into contact and learned more about each other."
I'm not sure, but I guess not all fans here in Poland are familiar with all your previous materials. So, would you like be that kind and briefly say us of the back catalogue of yours?
"Our first release was a real sick and brutal cd called "sicko baby". Two years later there was "Horny like hell", more rocking and groovy. In between we had a live-split cd and a real cool cover-album with our friends BELCHING BEET, so this was called "mucubelching beats", released early this year. And now there is "soul reaver"."
Another worth underlining issue in terms of "Soul Reaver" is undoubtedly its magnificent sound and production as a whole. How did you achieve that? Man, it fucking kill! I think it's the very best production Morbid has ever had!
"Hey, I'm glad you like it, for it's completely done in home-work. (Man, are you fucking with me? B.D) We bought our own home-recording stuff, and this is our very first self-made production. We've done all ourselves, recording, mixing, mastering, even the cover layout."
Is there any particular significance of your lyrics? They rather do not deal with usual topics like gore landscapes or other shit! So what the hell is going on here?
"We wanted to do something strange. There were some lyrics about dusty roads and lost highway-stations, so we took this as the generaly idea for soul reaver and it became a kind of concept for this release."
Do you like to participate in so-called split albums? If yes, then what to expect in the issue in near future? I mean, of course as far as Mucupurulent is concerned.
"I won't tell that much, but maybe there will be a funny cover-verson. We'll see."
To be frank I really dig the whole album, but if I may give you a piece of advice... Please keep the feeling of "Vermin" track in the future! This track is great! It beats the shit out of you!!! Fucking earthquake indeed! And the dynamics, simply great!
"At first we thought of doing a non-vocal piece, but afterwards with the voice it became more intense, I think. And the speed is just great to bang your head, isn't it?"
O yeah baby, that's definitely true! Perhaps I should have asked of it at a kick-off, but could you elaborate a bit about your line-up? Who is responsible for the aural slaughter and so forth?
"Timo, guitars and vox, is our brain. He composes most of the ideas for the guitar, and together with sera (g) and with me, ralph (dr), we create our songs together."
How your live activities look like present-day? Do you gig a lot?"
"Few days ago we played at weimar and halle, and i hope there will be many more in the future, but none are planned yet."
Do you know personally any death or grind bands out of Polish scene? Are you familiar with any names?
"Wasn't Dead Infection a Polish band? We did several gigs together in the past."
(And is Kreator a German band, huh?) Are you sort of a cult status band in Germany? I know this question should not be addressed to you directly, but you know, boast of a bit.
"Hmm, I think some people know our stuff and also some like it, and even some peeps like to watch our show. Well, not real cult. Maybe next year." (laughs)
Any closing remarks my friend before we put the talk to an inevitable end?
"Well, enjoy the music, don't think about the bad things and have fun with Mucupurulent! Cheerz!"
