Wywiad przeprowadził Bart DonarskiIt’s been a couple of years since I heard they debut for the first time. Swedish TAETRE is now in for releasing their third album entitled "Divine Misanthropic Madness". Unlike and thankfully this band, whilst originating from Gothenburg, has rather not much in common with typical, overused melodic death metal style of playing. TAETRE is all the more spontaneous, vigorous and various musically. I really dig this thrash metal approach they have. It certainly gives their music a proper dose of individuality. The album really turns on! Get it or... get stuffed!I do not want to be judged as a flatterer or shit, but I think "Divine Misanthropic Madness" is your best album! Nevertheless, why we had to wait for the record like three years?!

Dr Lindblood: Well, for a couple of different reasons. We didn't have a stable line up and Taetre was on the way of dying, due to this problem. We didn't have a contract and this also made the time just fly by. I had like a writing "Cramp" and couldn't write any music I was satisfied with for almost 6 months. I also remember that some people complained that our 2nd album "Out of emotional disorder" came out to quick after our 1st album "The Art". I don't think these people will think this now. But what the hell, if the album would have come out 1 year ago, some of the great songs on it like "Paint a whore as a saint" wouldn't have ended up on it, since they are kind of new.

I think that the great thing about your music is that TAETRE is not into melodic death metal solely. To be frank, I'm a bit fed up with all the Swedish bands unstoppably exploring the same riffs over and over again. You act differently, don't you?

It seems that we have the same opinion here. I'm SO tired of melodic death metal! It almost makes me vomit. When I speak of melodic death metal I mean the kind of "atmospheric" and "Iron Maiden wannabe death metal". I really like Iron Maiden, but I really dislike bands that wanna sound like them on speed or something. And all these faggots doing their "powermetal"-shit…with their coamed hair and clean clothing. Everybody sounding like one another. That's why Taetre doesn't play melodic death metal anymore. All the members of Taetre like thrash and old school death metal, bands like, Testament, Annihilator, Slayer (before they turned hardcoreshitty), Deicide, Entombed and so on. We play the music we like, to satisfy ourselves and if people like it…That's cool too.

"Divine Misanthropic Madness" is out via Mighty Music and it's a first fruit of the new cooperation. How it happened?

We were signed to Emanzipation productions earlier, and if you didn't know, Michael (head of Mighty music) had that company earlier. We wanted to continue our cooperation with him on his new label.

The new output was recorded at Los Angered with Andy La Rocque behind the console. How do you recollect the recordings? I really like the sound you achieved this time. Proficient as fuck!

The recording went great. We have recorded all our albums in Los Angered recordings, and always with Andy. I don't know how many times I've praised him in interviews, but it's just that he's the best! We've always been very comfortable recording with him and always very satisfied with the finished work, although this time he did the best job so far in my ears. Praise Andy!

I state also that the new album is all the more straight forward and less melodious. Unfortunately I haven't heard your previous album "Out of Emotional Disorder", but I assume they differ a lot. Am I correct?

Yes and no. Both of our previous albums are more melodic than the new one. But none of them are as melodic as In Flames or Dark Tranqullity. There's a lot of thrashy riffing on both earlier albums, but also some melodies that would have ended up in the trashcan if I came up with them today. I'm still kinda happy with them. It's definitely not "Gothenburg sound" melodic, even though we are from Gothenburg. If you haven't heard them, go and check them out, since there are some really cool songs on them. The oldest song on the new album "Diabolical Age" is not that far from the "Out of emotional disorder" album.

There's a guest appearance on "Divine...". Could you elaborate on this a bit?

There are 3. Let's start with Tony Jelencovich from Transport League. He's a close friend of the band, and we asked him if he wanted to tell us his opinion on the new stuff before we recorded the album, and so he did. And since he's got a great voice I asked him if he wanted to sing some lines on the new album, and so he came to the studio and did it. Andy helped out with 2 solos since our former guitarist Danyael left the band less than 1 month before recording and the very same Danyael came out and visited us during recording. And we thought that he could help us with a keyboard line and he did it.

Tell me why are you that pissed off on the album? The one is pure hatred and rage lyrically. Don't you like present-day world?

A lot of small things probably. I have a kind of shifting temper. Some people would probably call me an angry and pissed off bastard while others would call me a nice fellow. Depending on which me they've met. By writing these lyrics some of my aggressions towards this shitty world leaves me, and I feel more "normal" after writing them. It has been like this for 5-6 years. The lyrics are my therapy. Just getting to think about the world with all those ignorant, pathetic meatpile lifeforms calling themselves human (with no brain) makes me wanna drop a nuke. Look at all the catholic pedophile priests! And still, people believe in god!! The virgin Mary... One of the greatest hoax of all time, since "god" made her pregnant. And all these fucking idiots with IQ like a dog believe it. Feebleminded fools who dare not to think themselves, cause someone else might have a different point of view! Ah fuck, I don't want to talk about it!

There were some slight line-up replacements since the former album. What were the reasons to them? Is the new line-up a stable one?

The line-up we have now is the best line-up of Taetre ever. In January 2001 Conny left the band and since then we've had D.K. playing bass guitar for us. This was exactly what we needed, since (as I said earlier) the band was dying. With D.K. we got some freshblood in the band, and that was great! Danyael also left the band due to sickness and this left the door opened for Maggot our newest member. We are still good friends with both Conny and Danyael, and we hope the best for them, since they both are killerdudes!

Who of you comes up with main riffs for TAETRE? They are very memorable ones! It's quite hard to come by these days, where everything seems to sound the same.

Thanks! I make almost all of the riffs and arrangements. I think that D.K. did one riff on the song "Paradox", but all the rest are my creations. I don't know why it is like this, but it has always been like this. I guess I'm the creative guy in the band. I don't think that it will be like this in the future, but maybe 1 write 70% and Maggot 20% and D.K. & Graveyard 10%. I don't know. Let's see when our next album comes out.

Any gigs been planned yet? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I guess you do not perform too often.

No that's true I guess. It's not like we don't like to play live, for we do. I think the thing is that we still are a bit lazy. Hopefully this will change, since when we play live, we kill!

Does any of you contribute to other bands/projects, except for TAETRE? In Sweden it's rather common, so to speak.

Yes, both me and D.K are playing in other constellations. Me and Graveyard also play in a band with a kind of "dead but dreaming" status at the moment. This band has been around since 97 and recorded 1 demo. Yeah a bit lazy don't you think.

OK. Thank you for your time. I really like the new one! Any closing remarks?

Yeah thanks for this little nice interview. And to the readers…Go out and buy our new album "Divine Misanthropic Madness" or I'll kill you! Cheers!
