Lividity

"..'till only the sick remain" - this is not only a title of their new album, this an aim of theirs as well. To many LIVIDITY is known of their sick attitude foremost, but to me the name means at first - music. I can feel the true spirit of underground in every second of their music, I can delight the excellent technique and bang my
head like a madman. The record is also the first outcome of a new deal they signed. Morbid Records is widely-known of the excellent shit they spread worldwide. No doubt LIVIDITY is an another pearl in their roster. I vomited to LIVIDITY's spokesman - Dave Kibler. Of course, he won.Lividity is going to strike terror into minds of European audience pretty soon. How do you feel about that? To the best of my knowledge it'll be your very first headlining tour over here.
Dave Kibler: "We aren't coming to Europe in September as planned or promoted for the last 10 months, there was a cancellation (on part of the organizers, not the band!)... so we don't have anything concrete as to dates for a reschedule yet!! So just keep in touch with us or the label!! We do have a nice "cult" following in Europe and we want to get over there to blow some minds and get crazy!! It will be our 1st headlining tour (our 1st tour period), so this is a special deal for us to be treated with this respect from your nation!! YOU ALL RULE!!"
Do you count banning your cover artworks as a normal element of your free publicity?
"I just consider getting our work in as many places as possible!! The banned cover still has a sick attitude and doesn't take away from any aggression I think!! There were only 1000 of those for SPV and the promos, but the rest are the original artwork!! So it will still be sick!! We don't try to out sicken anybody, so the covers and shit don't effect us, we used more gore attitude with the visuals anyhow, so the censored, uncensored, lyrics, art, photos, concept... all intertwine well!!"
Actually, why are you that fucking sick, huh?
"It gets easier and you can stomach it better after a bit of whiskey and beer!! Ha, ha, always had a fascination with zombie flix at an early age, about the same time my musical preference got heavier and they rode side-by-side for the whole duration!! As far as sex talk goes... hell this is the goal of all men, to get their groove on with
as many good looking chicks as possible.. so we discuss these issues and mix it with our gore tone, so we like mutilating them after the duties are complete!!"
Do you believe in love dispensed with sex? Ha, ha, ha!!! You seem to be true platonic lovers...
"You mean, actually caring about her or something of this personal nature?!! Fuck no!! Just gimme the hole!!!"
As far as music, where did you record "...'till Only the Sick Remain"? It sounds damn proficient! Mega Wimp seems to become a court studio of Morbid present-day...
"We went up to Scott Creekmore (vocals of Broken Hope), he has a studio he calls Mercenary Digital and they provide any client with all the proper necessities for any recording hunger!! Brutal place!! We locked ourselves in his home for 7 days and had a blast! Pluto did a superb mastering job on it as well!! We couldn't be more pleased!!"
Do you have any fellow-bands you like touring, doing gigs with most of all?
"The true bros in Regurgitation, Burial, Cephalic Carnage, Defiled (Jap), Dying Fetus, Mortician, Blokhed, Sanatorium (Slk), Harakiri, CorpseVomit, Malignancy, and many more... we truly dig doing shows and partying with these groups... put 1 show together with each of these bands involved.... it would be the coolest fest of the year!!"
There's been a slight lineup replacement since "Age of Clitoral Decay". What's the cause for that?
"As most know, Nick (drummer) had passed away in July 2000, so we now have James Whitehurst... and Mike "Papa" shortly after had asked to part for a more serious life, which is cool and we are still friends, so our original bassist, Aaron "Heath" Harper has jumped back in and we are having a blast still and hungry to jam and write and just hang loose!!"
Another worth underlining issue is certainly the label change. You entered into a contract with Morbid Records. As it appears they are enough sick for you. But more seriously, what were the reasons to this change?
"We were looking at a way to reach more people at a higher speed.. so distribution was the main goal... We have been dealing with Morbid Records for a few years so their interest in the band has already been there so we asked and they didn't hesitate to answer back!! So the work began and we are glad it is circulating in mass consumption, it seems like, so we appreciate all of
Morbid's work with advertisements and compilations, plus radio all through Europe... It's killer to see... We didn't have past issues than needed to be dealt with our other labels, but it was nice to get on a well established network that is proving to surprise us each day!! The interviews and playlists are awesome!!"
Lividity as a band combines gore attitude with strict satanic/anti-christian symbolism. Sort of odd these days, don't you think? You know, many grind bands
make a great laugh of Satanism and so forth, for they think these elements simply do not fit each other...
"Everyone should just get along when it comes to aggression!! It's like a fucked up thing if a grinder get's an evil thought, or a face paintin' satanist actually throws a mosh groove in somewhere and we all start scrapin' knuckles!! haha I think we have a little of everybodys attitude when you think of the mixed characters in our band!! The anti christian thought, to straight up perversion and lust, to zombie / horror, to serial murder, etc.. All the dark tales of haunting actions fill our daily thought process with this band!! So don't let symbols or concept interfere with what's real and involved with flesh and blood! No spirits here... The power lays within each one of us and the greater the numbers, the greater the power!!! And it feels good brother!! So our mission isn't complete til we strike every one into metal!! AARRGGHHH!!!"
Do you find yourselves as, in a way and a/o, forefathers of Porno-Grind Death Metal in the US?
"We feel we speak our minds to the fullest with the porn issues, but there were others before hand like the Meat Shits, Slough, Anal Blast here from the states jamming in vulgar style.. So you could probably say this is some of the earlier brutal influence when we were all in our 1st bands... Tommy and I (Section 8) and Aaron and Matt (Desecration)... We merged in 1995 together and Tommy and I had already started demoing shit on 4 track in 1994 with such explicit words!! We were porn heads for sure then and nothing has changed even up til now!!"
I like that your music is not only about senseless speed. There are lots of tempo variations, ground-ripping riffs and intensity. How do you look upon my verbal ejaculations on the theme?
"You rule!! We appreciate that bro... We just want to sound heavy, we still like the old school way of things and mix it with some modern primitive grind!!! No rocket science in our formula of writing, we have to make the changes tastey and the structures should flow... We try and incorporate a new idea when writing a new song, not changing formula, just a new idea to break from sounding like others we write..."
Are people afraid of you? As I look at the photo on back cover of the promo I feel a bit inconvenient.
"Hell no, everybody is ready to get naked and party!! We are fun guys, hehehe"
Will you hit Poland? Know any bands from our country?
"We will when or if we get a solid booking... Not this September though!! Bands I am familiar with are Reinfection, Vader, Damnable, Hate, Behemoth, Themgoroth, Succubus, Crypt, Parricide, and more..."
Have you ever thought of doing a porno-DVD with Lividity soundtrack or at least a true porno show onstage?
"That would rule!! The band playing on a live set with Ron Jeremy slammin' his bitch!! Even with our crew getting the schlongs sucked while grinding away!! Fuck Yeah!! That's total sick!! YES!!!"
And one more brief question before I stop thrashing out at last. Are you fond of cartoon porno? Incredible things happen in these flicks at times.
"Yeah, I think they are great!! The funniest shit does happen, and it makes for great
entertainment!!"
Anything to add on behalf of Lividity? Feel free to spit some blood vomit!
"Speaking of Blood Vomit, this is a great band from US / EastCoast... Anyway, I have the Coven Of Death Distro so get a hold of me for a list!! Support our new disc, ...'Til Only The Sick Remain through Morbid Records (Germany)... Support The Bands That Support The Scene!!"
