Deeds Of Flesh

Deeds of flesh, every fuckin brutal maniac knows this awesome band! Not so long ago they released new extremely brutal masterpiece "Mark of the legion", which is their fourth album so far. I spoke with Jacoby... for your joy brutal motherfuckers!
What's new in Deeds of Flesh family? You released 4 lp's and one mcd till now. Tell me if You remember all the years, hours, even minutes you spent on playing in Deeds Of Flesh?
"It's been brutal man, really brutal. Struggling with new band members at times, at others, just having a blast and playing the best fuckin music on the planet, death metal. It's been really great overall and we'll keep it going as long as physically possible. Right now, we're back to a 3-piece. We just lost another guitar player and have just figured we'll keep it like this for a while. Erik is going to get some octave pedals so that we can continue to do the harmonizing aspects of the last two albums and the new parts we've put into the old songs."
Tell me why you change your line up over and over again? It is like in Dying Fetus today, he, he. I don't even know who plays in Deeds now...
"Well, it's just Erik, Me, and Mike. Mike is on the new album and has been our drummer for about 2 years now. Aaron, Jared, and Jimmy T. are the three guitar players that have played with us for the last three years, but unfortunately none of them worked out for different reasons. At least the core of Deeds has always been together. It sucks about Fetus but they are still killing things."
How do You create your songs? First music or text are written?
"Exactly, usually we will write riffs, then arrange them with the drums. Sometimes we just come up with riffs when we are free jamming. The riffs come at different times, but the lyrics are usually always written last. We should be writing lyrics along the way, but we don't. That's usually why we stress out
when we are in the studio, because we usually end up writing 2 or 3 songs of lyrics while we're in the studio."
Your third lp "Path of the Weakening" is little bit different than "Inbreeding..." or "Trading...". But new CD "Mark of the Legion" is like hybrid of 'Path...' and 'Inbreeding...', I think that You have worked out own your style, will you agree with that?
"It's quite a bit different than most death metal bands. There are a lot ofelements, vocals & blast beats & stuff that you'll find in most death bands, but our guitar riffs are probably what put us aside from other bands. On "Mark..." we wanted to bring back the brutality we had on 'Inbreeding..." with the power of the "Path..." album and we think it worked out sick! The new stuff we are writing now is really fuckin crazy, man."
Who created the cover of 'Mark of The Legion'? What You want to express through that artwork?
"We wanted a sort of symbol for the album cover. At first, we were going to do a war scene, but then thought about how many albums we've seen war sceneson so we didn't want to go that route. The shield won the cover when JonZig sent it to us. It was a killer piece of artwork and it totally fit. My friend Steve Miller did the background for the shield and it was complete."
You've played many gigs. Tell me, where You had the best gig? Which band You remember as a cool guys? Any new tits in Your groupie collection? :)
"There's been tons of killer shows. I still think the best shows for us are in Montreal, Canada. Those kids fuckin love fast death metal and really go off every time we go there. Other than that, I would have to say our show at the first Fuck the Commerce Fest in Germany was a totally insane drunken beer fest with more people than I could see. Our favorite bands to tour with are Disgorge (US) and Cephalic Carnage. Together we really seem to fuck shit up in a big way. They are our brothers and we have a lot of stupid fun when we go out on tour."
What about those tits I asked you before? Tell me about future plans, I mean the tournee or new CD?
"Right now we are working on a 10-15 minute song for a live album. It's gonna be like "End of All" on "Inbreeding...", but way longer. It will be a true marathon song. Gotta show people who has the endurance and speed. We also have a killer live show from San Francisco, CA with about 10 songs on it. We are hoping to put it out in the spring of 2002. After that, we hit the road in April in the U.S. and Europe in May. Then we will write
another ablum."
Unique Leader is Your own labels now. Tell us about bands and upcoming releases from it.
"We have an onslaught of brutal death metal on our label. Mortal Decay, Disgorge, Disavowed, Pyaemia, Necronomicon, Severed Savior, Agiel, and somenew ones not confirmed yet. All of our bands work hard and really love death metal and all play extremely well. Our sales for our bands have been going really well and I truly believe we are helping them in the best way possible. Up next, we have Mortal Decay "Forensic" and Agiel "Dark
Pantheons Again Will Reign". Brutal Death Fans can check out Mp3's at: www.uniqueleader.com"
Do You realise that some bands are inspired by Your music? I think you're satisfied with that?
"We are greatful for that. We've been playing this style since 1993 and the new bands coming out now seem to get more and more brutal! I'd hope that Deeds of Flesh had something to do with that. I'm really glad to see how many great bands are out right now, that really helps the scene grow stronger and will keep it growing in the future."
I don't remember, that Deeds was in Poland, why? You must arrive here and meet most brutal audience in a world (hehehe). Do you know any polish bands(other than vader please, hehehe)? Maybe some words in polish lanuage?
"Unfortunately, Vader are the only guys we've met. Ha Ha, we toured with them last summer in the
U.S. We haven't been to Poland ever. It sucks, but we don't have a real say on where we get to tour in Europe. In fact, we haven't even been to Europe since 1997. I would be interested to see what shows are like in Poland, I bet you guys are fuckin nuts man. Hopefully
soon, we'll get over to brutalize with the Polish peoples."
One dizzy question: The name of band and all titles of your lps have double-element name. You know what I mean, You dont have short names. Why?
"Hell if I know. Probably because single names are fucking boring to us. Some of the topics we cover, mostly true crime, deserve more than a one word title. We'll let Six Feet Under have all the one word song and album titles, they deserve them, Ha ha."
Ok, thank You and see You sometime, somewhere in Poland!!! Take care and play brutal endlessly!!!
"Thanks eternal for the intie, and tell them Polish people that we hope to see them soon, and if not, get their ass to the Fuck The Commerce Fest on May 9-11th in Germany we'll be there!! Also check out our sites at www.deedsofflesh.com and www.uniqueleader.com and Keep it Fuckin Bloody!"
