  • Iniquity

Wywiad przeprowadził Andrzej Papież When speaking about Scandinavian metal scene almost everyone means obout Sweden or Norway, right? Some can add a Finnish scene. But have you ever thought about Danish metal scene? No?!?!?! So, that's hight time do do that! At the beginning I recommend you to listen to Iniquity. They just released their third full length "Grime" which is one of the best death metal albums coming from Denmark, for sure. I talked with their drummer, Jasper... Hell'o Jasper!! "Are things still rotten in the state of Denmark"?

"I don´t know, ask William Shakespeare."

You just released your third full-lenght "Grime". After few listenings I can say that you did prove with this album that death metal still has "strong position". You did breathe into it a new soul!!!

"Thanks a lot! What more can a death metal musician want. Would you say that this album is the rebirth of death metal? I must say that we had to rehearse a lot- a fucking lot."

"Grime" is also great continuation of style that you begun on "Five across the eyes". Even the sound is the same! So, drawnig conclusions from this I can say that Iniquity foun it's own style, right?

"Our style is death metal. I think that we have developed us futher than just continuing the style from "5 across...". The sound is a little bit different. We have more bass, more middel on guitar, and Mads has variated his song more. But we produced "Grime" in the same studio with the same producer, so of course the sound is in the same kind of style. This is the first time we made all the songs together. On "5 across..." we used song from Thomas and Mads´ former band Swollen, and Brian and myself had some songs from the cooperation with Martin Rosendahl. "Grime" is what Iniquity sounds like- also in the future, I hope."

You have a new member in the band, Kraen Meier, former guitarist from Sacrificial. Why did you choose him? How can he handle playing in two bands at the same time? As I know you play in other bands, too, right? What are those bands?

"Kran Meyer is a very positive man. He´s always prepared, you can´t place a finger at him, and he plays an exelent guitar.... Brilliant, superb! We all have to work hard to make it possible to play in two bands, and it´s only just, that we can do it. Kran plays in Sacrificial, Thomas in Daemon and I in Thorium."

What are opinions about "Grime"? What do you expect from this album? By the way, I heard something that Morbid Angel and Nile do like your previous stuff....

"Grime" hasn't been out in Europe and USA for more than one month, so we don´t know what metal freaks thinks about it yet. But our friends and the local reviewer likes it very much! On "Grime" we´re faster, more technical than ever and it shows our full potential, they claim. We hope to go on European tour with Incantation in April 2002, and hope that Nile and Morbid Angel likes the new style as much as the "5 across the eyes" album."

On the last track on "Grime" there are spoken words, and whole track is different from the whole album. What is the meaning of those words, and the track itself?

"It´s the last words of a soldier who´s dying in the battlefield of Somme in the Great War. The track is part two to "Poets of the trench", which tells some of the awfull things that you see in every war there ever was and will be. There isn´t anything glorious about war, that's the point of the lyrics."

Jesper, do you often listen to your recordings? What is your reaction to them? You are laughing, crying or you are full of admiration...?

"Yes I do, every time we rehersal, and I hate it :). I listen to every cd we´ve made, and think it´s great. And as usual I like the latest album the best, so until we record our next album, "Grime" is of my preference. I don´t think we ever made an album that we didn´t like at the time being."

Today I listened to "Serenadium", your first Cd, from '96. Do you like this album? It's little bit different from your actual recordings, but still catchy... Anyway is there a possibility to re-release it? It's even good piece of old-school death metal...

"Serenadium" was released on Emanzipation/Die Hard so you will have to ask them, but never say never! Yes I listen to those ones in a while, but it´s not me who´s playing the drums, so for me it´s just like listening to another band. It´s packed whith killer riffs."

I heard that on your previous mlp the texts were, generally speaking, about sex.... Do you still sing about this absolutely interesting subject?

"About sex? Where have you heard that? Well I think that you should read the texts and draw your own conclusions. I think that one or two of the songs are about sex with corpses, but that´s interesting enough."

By the way, are Danish women good at bed... he he ?

"I think they are better than God praying, Jesus ass kissing, no sex before marriage, pope says that the earth´s flat, angry neurotic katholics girls."

How is metal scene in Denamark? You are said to be constantly quarrelling ?

"When I see the scene outside of Denmark I can´t believe we´re still here. At our last concert there we´re 80 paying audiences, and it only costs 1/1000 of the lowest monthly income in Denmark. "Ha, what ya think of that!"

I associate Denmark only with Hamlet, Faxe beer, porno films and film about Olsen's gang [do you remember that film?] What are other interesting things in Denmark?

"So you think that Faxe is interesting? I think that it´s the worst beer in this contry. Besides the things you mentioned we have one good metal band whos name is Iniquity. We have a great social care system and that's got to be all."

Let's come back to music. What on hell did you record on "Five across the eyes" that acoustic song with woman's vocals for ??? It absolutely does not suit to the album !!!

"That's your opinion. I think it´s great combined with "Pyrus of Atonement", which is also different from the other tracks on "5 across..."."

Your last two albums itself are a real masterpieces [the only objection is just that "girl's" song...] Each track is a potential death metal hit. Have you got some special way of composing such excellent songs? You sold your souls for the devil, didn't you ?!

""The Devil I Know" is money, and who doesn´t want a lot of money. We compose in the usual way, guitar comes up with some riffs and I provide the drums, and we all put it together. The basic rule is; that everyone has to be satisfied with every track, otherwise we change it."

Is there some element which is included in every Iniquity's track- an element without which Iniquity music couldn't "exist"?

"Yes 200 riffs, 550 changes in tempo, 48( C. on the guitar and absolutely no structure on drums. We usually play in every tempo from grind too doom in every song."

Do you play often live? "Grime" is the most important Mighty music release so far... so, any tour is planned?

"We hope to go on a European tour with Incantation in April/May 2002."

On what terms do you play concerts? Supposing I wanted to invite you to Poland, what would be your demnds then to agree to come to Poland?

"The terms would be that you would cover our expenses and more than, or at least two concerts."

I guess, that's all. Thanks a lot ! Fot the end, please teach our readers few Danish words. First of all those that are vulgar and connected with entertainment ha ha...

"Sure! If you say "anal whore" to a girl it means beautifull girl. Or "jeg skal have den nye cd med Iniquity" : I want to buy the new cd with Iniquity. Thank you for your space and time. Buy "Grime" and stick it up some posers ass. Stay metal and have fun!"
