SUBMIT THE DISEASE Chicago's fiends of DISINTER are back with another decent dose of death/thrash mixture! The new album entitled "Demonic Portraiture" can easily be called a work of art in the whole genre. No shit folks, this is true as hell we all live in. No doubt the record is the best and most proficient achievement of the masters of technical devastation. Get this through Morbid, get this via Mad Lion, get this whenever. The album is not just worth checking out, it's simply worth having. Firstly - great music, secondly - excellent cover artwork and eventually thirdly - professionalism above all!
First off I must ask you are you willing to pay for a long-term treatment I need after hearing "Demonic Portraiture"?
Zion: "I see you have been infected by our disease."

You did a few gigs with MARDUK, AMON AMARTH and DIABOLIC lately. Are you content with them?
"Yes, very much so. Unfortunately Marduk was denied access into the states for a couple of days so we did not get to see them. The show in St. Paul, Minnesota was excellent, two hundred metallers going crazy. Aurora, Illinois was a great show as well. Amon Amarth and Diabolic are both great bands and cool guys to hang out with. I had been looking forward to seeing Amon Amarth again for a long time and they did not disappoint.

The new album is quite long as far as death metal is concerned. Was this schemed?
"It just happened that way. We knew we wanted at least ten songs on the album and we recorded over fourteen songs and four cover songs. That's just how long it turned out to be after we picked the track list."

Don't you think it's a bit odd for an American band to record a cover of such band like AT THE GATES? It's not that common anyway.
"No, not really. The idea to do that cover was brought up at rehearsal one day so we learned the song and played it live a few times, people enjoyed it, we enjoyed it so we just put it on the cd."

Is there any main topic on the album?
"Horror, War, world domination, extermination, blood, sweat and torture!!"

What about your lineup? Is everything stable in the issue? Preston left, as I heard.
"Yes. After Preston left Bats went to guitar and we now have a new bass player Maciek."

Do you listen to European metal as much as American one?
"Yes, I listen to both equally. For me it does not matter where the music comes from as long as it stirs my emotions. Anything from My Dying Bride to Deicide."

Even though DISINTER is your priority some of you occasionally contribute to other bands like VITAL REMAINS, JUNGLE ROT or NOVEMBERS DOOM. Doesn't this cause any problems for you?
"No not really. My contributions to Vital Remains was only for one tour with Deicide during a time when we were writing material for the new album so there was no conflict. Mike's work with Jungle Rot ended a long time ago and he fills in on bass for Novembers Doom on a show to show basis until they find a permanent member."

I must state your music is pretty melodious as for brutal death metal to which DISINTER is classified. It makes you more original, don't you think?
"I'm not sure really. We have never set out to be nor have classified ourselves as a brutal death band. When people ask us what style of music we play the response has always been old school death/thrash. We like melody as well as brutality and aggression so they kind of get blended together. You know how it goes with the whole classification thing. It is ultimately up to the listener."

What are the differences between Chicago's scene and other ones? Are there any differences generally?
"I think it takes awhile to get to know a scene in a particular place so it is not my place to speak good or ill of another town, state or countries scenes. I think the scene in Chicago is doing quite well considering the over all lack of venues. Right now there are only three clubs around the city to have underground shows and there are shows going on all the time. At least there places to see shows so complaining is for poseurs. One difference between scenes is unity, without that it is hard to keep it strong."

Tell me what is going on in The US? Chuck Schuldiner passed away, James Murphy is not ok and Chuck Billy is not recovered in full meaning? Man, it seems like something odd is going on out there.
"I think they heard some Disinter songs and were infected as well. I had no idea James Murphy was ill."

How metal maniacs and musicians reacted after being informed of Chuck's death? It hit me like thunder, personally.
"It is quite a loss to us when one of the founders of Death metal leaves his mortal shell. Death is about remembrance and his legacy of music will live on in the halls of Metal!!"

"Demonic..." has been released via Morbid Records. I thought you're satisfied with Deadsun.
"DeadSun just licensed Welcome To Oblivion from us. JF has done a great job and we are happy to work with him. We ultimately signed to Morbid Records for two albums. JF's band Gurkkhas has signed to Morbid as well."

What's "The Beauty of Suffering"? To be frank, never heard of it?
The Beauty of Suffering is a limited edition shaped disc ep we released at the same time as Welcome to Oblivion. It contains five tracks; two from "WTO", a redone version of With the Blood from "Desecrated", an intro and outro."

I always thought questions about cover artworks were rather senseless, but this one on the new album even IMMOLATION would be proud of! Was this your own idea?
"Jaromir "Deather" Bezruc did the cover; he is from Czech Republic. We sent him our ideas and lyrics and that is what he came up with along with all of the pictures in the booklet. We think the cover art is sick as hell, he did a great job."

Alright Zion that's all for the time being. Hope to meet you one day. Maybe on FTC or Obscene?
"We hope to play those fests one day, so until then look for us in Poland some time in the near future. We will be touring Europe again this year. Thanks for the interview. Hail Metal!!!! Hail Darkness!!! Strength and Honour!!!"
