MUCH OF A MUCHNESS, BUT FOR THE STUPID!
I like two peculiar aspects of Czech's metal scene. The first one is based on brutality, and the other one dwell in mighty dose of sheer emotion. The former is represented by bands like Fleshless, Hypnos, Krabathor, and the latter is appointed by groups like Sad Harmony, Forgotten Silence or SSOGE. GODLESS TRUTH seem to be not in between certainly, but there's something in this band that makes them astray in a sense. If I'd be stupid as hell I'd compare them to all the rest of native to them brutal bands, what would be an easiest way, but not true in any shape and form. Presently GODLESS TRUTH is ready to promote their latest achievement entitled "SelfRealization", and hopefully the gigs they're gonna do this year won't omit Poland. Some quite important things changed for the band, but after reading this interview with Zdenek all your questions will be surely answered.
Firstly, my congratulations for such a great death work as you did on "selfRealization"! Where did you record this, for it sounds brilliantly?
Zdenek: "First, I´d like to thank you a million for the nice words about our latest release "selfRealization". That´s pretty amazing as hell that in Poland there are also people into this kind of music! We recorded at Exponent Studio, Slovakia. We used this studio also for our previous recording "Burning Existence" and we are absolutely satisfied with both results. The main reason why we´re so devoted to this studio is that we´re very good friends with the people working there and we can do everything we want by ourselves! It means we stand behind the whole recording, mixing and the whole production. We´re definitely going back to Exponent Studio with our forthcoming recording."
Why did you leave French DEADSUN and eventually decided to be a part of SHINDY roster? Weren't you enough content with the previous label?
"I would say that we were always satisfied with Deadsun Records work. They always made the maximal effort to press Godless Truth to the world death metal scene. The only problem was with our home scene in Czech Republic. It was almost impossible for Czech metal heads to get our cd for fair price. So, we decided to left and try to cooperate with home label, Shindy productions. It looked like we weren´t satisfied with Deadsun enough to sign a deal for a next album but the reason was kinda different. We all in Godless Truth appreciate the work of Jean F. Rey / Deadsun Recs. He´s a great person anyway."
I'm not firmly sure, but as well as I recollect your former materials were all the more typically death. Now, what we can find on the new album is definitely more contemporary in a way of playing. More core I'd say. Is this the path you'll follow in the future. It's still very straight brutal death anyway...
"You´re right. Our previous recordings were typically death metal sounded albums with both Euroean and US influences. We used to play a very technical death metal with influences from all kinds of music like thrash, power metal etc...and I was the one and only memeber from the band listening to the true US brutal death metal all the time. After all the line up changes there was only me and gutarist Peter stayed in the band and we finally decided to change our music style. Our today´s style is definitely influenced by American scene only. Maybe you can hear some core riffs and parts in it , but I think it´s still brutal as fuck kind of music and we call it Brutal-Groove-Technicality! Talking about our future releases I can only confirm that we´ll keep spreading our brutal technicality to your heads!"
As I read GODLESS TRUTH has been quite busy touring here and there. Do you organize all the gigs by your own, or with a help-hand of someone out of the band? You know, it's rather tough for 'our' bands to perform onstage these days.
"I organize 95% of all Godless Truth gigs/tours by myself. We played like 150 shows in past three years. On the other hand I have to say that last year (2001) we played only 15 shows due the problems with our drummer George. After the amazing gig, september 13th with Cryptopsy and Dying Fetus in Prague, where we played before 900 heads, we decided to kick his ass out of the band. Three weeks later we´ve got a new drummer Paul and we´re just preparing Godless Truth live performance for this year´s season."
How was on "Kill the Weak Europeans" tour you shared with American Disgorge like a year ago?
"Fucken awesome bro! We were three weeks on road and we crushed almost all states in the Europe. We played in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. We were also supposed to hit Holland but this gig has been cancelled due some travel problems. As I mentioned we played also two gigs in Poland, one in Klodzko and the second one in very nice town called Szczecin near Baltic sea. We hope we´ll have the same opportunity to come back to Poland on our next tour. Disgorge totally kicked ass, brutal and tight as fuck!!!"
Any line-up replacements since "Burning Existence"?
"I guess I kind of answered this in #4. Since the "Burning Existence" cd we´ve only changed drummer. Due some disagreements with George we´ve changed him for a new guy in Godless Truth camp named Paul. He comes to us from Prague atmo band called Demimonde. We got a new song with him and so far it seems it´s gonna crush everything on the scene! He´s fast as hell and technical as well. Now we can finally play an unholy mixature of incredible speed with space technicality."
Will you squeeze my balls if I say your music breeds similarities to American Pyrexia?
"Ooohhh no !!!!!! You seem to be really good in your branch man!!! You deserve to suck your balls from someone not to squeeze them bro!"
I guess you must be satisfied with the layout of "selfRealization". Great job of SHINDY.
"It was also mine idea to do this shit with our booklet but released on Shindy´s computer, so...I´m originaly graphic designer and Martin from Shindy is very talented in this way too!"
Why the bonus is 'unwelcome'?
"That´s really simple, cause me and previous drummer George hate this song and Peter with Michael love this song. It means we were 2 against 2, so we decided to record, but call this song as a "unwellcomed Bonus". Hope you understand."
Any plans for further touring next year? Will you appear on some of the summer festivals?
"For sure. We´re going to tour Europe again in May 2002. If everything's gonna be ok, we´ll be touring with US brothers Prophecy from Texas. We also plan to hit Europe again in autumn 2002 with another band. We´ll be also playing this year´s Fuck The Commerce festival in Germany as well as all the big festivals in Czech Republic and maybe another one in Austria! If there is anyone interested in Godless Truth show in Poland, you can write to me and we can prepare something, OK?"
Even if you seem to be gore, you're not. So, what topics "selfRealization" deals with?
"I don´t like this kind of questions ´cause my lyrics are so emotional and personal, but I try ... The lyrics deal with certain aspects of death and feelings about it and also deal with usual things from our lives. If you´re watching everyday´s news in TV you can see what´s going on in the whole fucken 
world and you can understand easier what Godless Truth lyrics are talking about."
Have you heard new FLESHLESS yet? Think it's another good shit out of Czech Rep. as well.
"I heard a new Fleshles cd couple weeks ago and must say it´s really another cool shit comming out from here. I´m not sure if this one is their best to date but as I said while before it´s a good shit. I can recommend you more worth listening bands from Czech like Intervalle Bizzare who are fucken bad ass and brutal as shit, other great bands are Vuvr ( technical bestiality), Contrastic (now signed to Relapse), Poppy seed grinder, Laniena Mentis, Forgotten Silence and many others."
Have you got any long-term goals to achieve as GODLESS TRUTH in the future?
"Yeah, we would like release another cd this following summer under Shindy. This one will be for 90 % a mcd or split cd with one American band. We´ll have 4/5 brandnew songs on this cd as well as one cover song from Internal Bleeding´s first official release "Invocation of Evil"!!!!! Be sure this cd is gonna kick your asses!!!
