DARK PAST STILL ALIVE
American death metal is a term everybody knows. The music originally stinted merely to Florida's garages spread its wings upon whole world afterwards. The phenomenon of the most brutal and technical music ever head imposed on Germany as well. Still new bands show up in the scene, some of them are tedious, the others are worth checking out. DISINFECT appeared before me like a ghost from the dark past of good quality bands. Their debut album "Beinspender" is ready to be released by a decent label. Any of the interested ones do not hesitate and get in touch with them via disinfect@gmx.de, for it won't take long and DISINFECT will be on a roster of your competitors in the business. Nevertheless, formerly let's read what Chris - lead guitarist - said in this brief but interesting talk. First off, what does "Beinspender" mean in English, for apart from few words German is a black magic to me?
"It's something like to play on words. This is a kind of joke. It's like to spend a leg and the song is about vermin."
How is this possible that you - hellish motherfuckers - originating from Germany play such excellent American death metal, huh? Shouldn't you play typical native to you power metal?
"Thanks and great that you like our music so much!! Ha, ha I don't think that the typical German music is Power Metal any more. Here in the south of Germany there're a lot of very good Death and Black Metal bands!! I think you know bands like FLESHCRAWL, OBSCENITY, ANASARCA... All German ones!"
I'm not confident, but is the album released via Rest In Hell? And what's the label? Never heard of them, frankly spoken.
"Yes, REST IN HELL Rec. released our CD. This is a very small and new label but we didn't sign a deal till now!! We'll take now a look at other labels what they want to do for us and then we'll see!"
The band was spawned not that long ago? Did you contribute to any other bands formerly?
"There were a lot of bands before! The last one was OBSCURE it was more a mid tempo Death Metal band in the vein of MORBID ANGEL, PESTILENCE, DEATH. This band was the reason to make DISINFECT because they don't want to change their style at that time and I wanted a much brutal band."
Presumably it's a bit odd that German band recorded its music in Slovakian or Czech studio. I know productions from Exponent and I think they are very good, but isn't it a bit extravaganza to register there for a band that in its own country has dozens of great studios ready to be entered with doors wide-opened?
"No, I don't think so, because you have to look at the prices here in Germany! You've to see the other costs like hotel, food and really a lot beer ha, ha. And when you go out every evening after recording it's much, much cheaper in Slovak Rep. then here in Germany and the other thing is they made a very good work!"
As I read you toured with Dutch gods (now gods and goddess) of Sinister. How was on the tour? And besides, do you think that female should be involved in such music, I mean in general?
"It was a very good and funny tour and very drunken one ha, ha. The guys are really cool like APOPHIS and I was one of the promoter of this tour! About girls in Death Metal. Ha, ha it's a very good question, because my ex-girlfriend plays in a complete female Death Metal band. I don't think this is the kind of music a girl should make. I can't take it seriously when a woman growls like a man!?! You know what I mean? That's too funny. They should do their groupie job ha, ha."
What track "L2 A5" deals with? Kinda strange.
"It's about a tank (Leopard) and it's power."
You were nominated as the best live band in... something? Elaborate on it a bit. Was that a big deal for you. And, what the hell do you do onstage then?
"We're always naked and make Hardcore sex on stage ha, ha No, I think what you can see it's the power and love for the music we play! It's from the first chord to the last one always live power!! When it's possible work with light especially green one because that's our band colour."
Isn't the new material anything you want to attract bigger labels in the future? I mean, you're worth to be grabbed by, no doubt!
"Thanks! Yes, for two weeks we've been sending some promo packages to try to get a really good deal!! The thing is the label we work now together is too small and they don't have enough money to promote us like they should do!"
Will you develop your, now rather typical American, style of playing into something more original? I'm not trying to find fault with it, but do you give a shit or not?
"HAHAHA NEVER!!!!!! The only thing is, that we'll play much more brutal and fast!!! Ha, ha DISINFECT is not a trendy band!!"
What to wish a band like DISINFECT? More groupies?
