FROM GRANDPA TO GRANDSON
If you haven't hared any of the FLESHLESS albums you must be complete wimps! From one album to another the Czech's band have become one of the main-support of the European underground death metal scene. Their latest release entitled "Nice to Eat You" confirmed that FLESHLESS established themselves as leaders of brutal music in they native country. I know that in Czech Rep. there are dozens of bands playing in this vain (and 80% of them are surely tedious), but these monsters, unlike the rest, create and perform something very, very spectacular. I won't write they are fucking brutal, excellent composers, utter rippers and so on. Just do not hesitate and dive into the quicksand of their music. It won't take long and you're dead!
Have you ever been eaten?
Vladimir: "Not, I´m still alive and make this realy sick interview for you...but my room is full of stenching bodies... I hope that your head will be also part of my collection as soon as possible...ha,ha,ha...."
Being more serious, is there a girlfriend of yours on the cover?
"Serious question and serious answer...damn, it's really my ex-girlfriend... she doesn't like my cool collection and also she doesn't like to fuck with me in presence of third person (though dead one), as I told you she was really peliculiar, so now she is part of my collection and of course I'm looking for some normal girlfriend... if you have an interest...write me... I'll be good on you...believe me... On second side she looks perfect on our cover and she is here really very, very attractive, maybe she could smile more...maybe next time..."
Being all the more graver, might it be true that your grandpa taught you how to play grind/death? Reportedly, he was meant to play in FLESHLESS, but unfortunately he was busy touring with EXHUMED at that time. That's what I heard...
"Yes, my grandpapa is pioneer of Czech death/grind scene, he established his first band in 1950 and they played very extreme death metal with instruments like trumpet, violin and bass, really excellent gore lyrics with ultra deep vocals of my grandfather... I anticipate that they called SICKENING GORE or so...damn, this time was really bad so they were long time in communistic prison, there my grandpapa got an idea for new band called FLESHLESS and I must realize his dreams, but I mean you know this story... Also with EXHUMED tour you're 100% right (where did you get this true info?), he did for them European tour and also US tour with Mortician (Will is my secondary brother from father's side...)"
Yes, I realized this interview seems to be a bit out-of-wits, but is there a chance for you to play a bit softer? You know, I'm not trying to find fault with it, but maybe "Nice to Eat You" is that fast, for you are very nervous people. ? I just hope you do not act like that in bed with your girls, it would be stressful...
"Oh, no, no, no...we don't want to do some really heavy CD, you're just dreaming...we try to write just nice love songs as our bigger collegues like Backstreet Boys, Boyzone and others...and nervous people? I'm sure - NO!!! Can't wait to see you again...ARGH!!!"
Ok. Now a really decent question. As you probably remember, I saw you in Poland lately. God damn, shit, hell, whatsoever, you rule!!! Do you practice a lot to obtain such quality of playing onstage?
"We can't forget you bro...thanks you very much for your compliments!!!!! It's great that you like our live show... for us it was our first gig in Poland and I can say that the gig was amazing - great fans, professional organizing of the show, good bands like DECAPITATED, PARRICIDE etc... Thanks to SETH /Analis Kanalis/!!! Of course we must practise!!! We practise about 1-2 times per week...but our drummer practices about 4 times per week...as you know he is lunatic..."
Still on Obscene roster, I guess you must be a very good friends. Right?
"Yes we are good friends with Curby, I know him about 8 years... he made for us our split MC with Disfigured in 1996 plus two our old CD's GRINDGOD and ABHORRENCE OF CADAVERIC...he makes the best for our band...great promotion...we really like his work...I think that Curby makes a great promotion for all OBSCENE BANDS... for example like a tour for Isacaarum, Ingrowing which supported US gods of gore EXHUMED /in summer 2001/..."
Do you know in which country (apart from Czech Rep.) you are popular most of all?
"I mean that we have a good name in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland... where we played this year like a headliner and our gigs visit about 1OO fans/per show and this is OK for us... thanks to all organizers which support us!!! You know who you are!!!"
Is there any deeper sense in the lyrics of yours, you know, anything more then typical gore/grind approach to the topic?
"I mean that we write typical lyrics for a death metal band... some songs are in gore vein, some are about Second World War, some are about fucking communists or faschists, some lyrics are about problems in society /like corruption etc../... I hope that some people will read this in our booklet, because our words are the same sense like the music..."
In the flyer I received there was underlined that it's played by a live drummer. Hard to believe, but I had a tangible proof of it in Poland. Is your drummer a cannabis eater, or what? He's awesome, even if his very top influence is unforgettable Swedish grind-gods of Europe!
"Thanks for this bro, I think that Vitys is one of the most talented and the fastes drummers in Europe... He doesn't use any kind of drugs, he's just crazy cigarrette smoker, it's the only drug for him, but
really important 'coz he usually smoke some 40 pieces per day!!! He hates alcohol and I mean it's very good 'coz he must be concetrate and really fast and accurate for the shows, studio etc. Ha,ha,ha...his "teacher" is mighty Flo from CRYPTOPSY and when he could meet Flo in Prague on CRYPTOPSY's show, he really cried like small boy ha,ha,ha...you know meet the GOD was something really special for him..."
I presume that except for blast-beats and the whole velocity you give more insight into technique as well. That's why I suppose you do not want to just kill musically, but also showcase that FLESHLESS is not merely about speed and brutality...
"Yes, of course you're right... we want to do more technical music with great work of guitarists and drummer, but still is important FLESHLESS's feeling that must be in every our song....but I must tell you that we mix technical/accoustic/melodic parts with ultra brutal blasts from our beginning."
Any further plans for touring?
"We'll see... we want tour everywhere and I hope that our label will do something for us, maybe that we'll tour next spring with US brutalists DISINTER or some other band... and also we'll be back in Poland on our minitour as soon as possible so be prepared for killer and brutal shows!!! Also we'll have a tour in Switzerland, Italy etc and some shows in Romania, Slovakia and I hope for more gigs..."
Isn't it the very first time you decided to record a cover version of a track originally created by an other band. And why ROOT? To the best of my knowledge they do not play in the same vain as you do. Once I did an interview with them, so I know what I'm talking about.
"Yes, on first CD we recorded song of great MASTER'S HAMMER, on second we did song of Czech rock legend OLYMPIC and now ROOT's classic track... and I must tell you that we absolutely love and respect these bands and that's why we did their covers and I mean that is very important that we do their songs but in our typical vein and it's really interesting for fans to bring them some old cults from our country... and why rock and black metal bands and not some brutal one??? Because as I told you these bands influenced in our entire beginnings and it's also very interesting for us make rock or black song to typical FLESHLESS's sound and do from this really killer music..."
Might it be feasible that your girlfriend almost forced you to write a love song especially for hers?
"Ha,ha,ha...no, no,no...my girlfriend is total death metal headbanger so she adores brutal and killer music and now I'm not joking from you, she is vocalist of death/grind band MURDER PERSONS and they actually recording debut CD!!!"
What's the most popular death band in Czech presently? I guess it may be HYPNOS. I know that presumably KRABATHOR is well-know worldwide, but of their latest album I just want to forget about, anyway...
As you know in Czech Republic is too many great death or grind bands and now is really hard to say who is no. 1 and maybe it's also stupid 'coz how do you want to measure music??? But great bands are HYPNOS, INGROWING, GODLESS TRUTH, ISACAARUM, INTERVALLE BIZARRE, LANIENA MENTIS,
CONTRASTIC and more... maybe interesting for you can be information that US label RELAPSE will release in January 2002 CD called CZECH ASSAULT with new songs of FLESHLESS, INTERVALLE BIZARRE, IMPERIAL FOETICIDE, CONTRASTIC and N.C.C. and the guys at Relapse really love our scene and I think very soon some Czech band will release CD on this legendary label and it's proof of quality, isn't it??? And KRABATHOR? It's now more like thrash band and their latest album is even worse that cool albums like "Orthodox" or "Cool Mortification"..."
Alright, last deceptive question. Ready?!? As it's been written in Czech's newspapers "A Woman Behind a Counter" is your best movie. What's so bloody in this blood-soaked film for you? As I recollect she was selling cakes only, not meat. ?
"Ha,ha,ha....I fuckin' hate this movie from communistic era!!!!!!!!!!!"
Ok, one more gore question. Have you ever wanted to have an Arabela's ring, you know, the one from the movie series? What woud you do with it? I know, you would like to put this interview to an end...
"If I'll have Arabela's ring FLESHLESS will play World Tour with QUEEN and mainly with living Freedy Mercury!!! Thanx a lot for your interesting questions and your eternal support!!! Thank you bro, I hope to see you soon..."
