Necroterio
Wywiad przeprowadził Bartosz DonarskiNECROTERIO - BRAZIL ATTACKS
Southern American bands simply rule! I could list tones of names that remorselessly crash with a furious mighty! NECROTERIO from Brazil is awesome! Harsh, filthy music balancing on the edge of death metal and grind is how the sickos are trying to kill. "Lament of Flesh" is their very first full-length and merely the blind-folded can't see they have a lot to say musically. Let's check out what's new in their camp.
Being honest I had no idea about your band until I got "Lament of Flesh". Sorry if my knowledge on NECROTERIO is not appropriately profound, but is this your first album?
Evandro Maidl: "Yes, "Lament of Flesh" is our first album."
Is this tough to be a metal band in Brazil? You know, your country as well as Poland are very religious. Banning gigs is maybe not that common, but happens anyway...
"Well, we have a lot of good regions to make metal concerts in Brazil, and metal gigs are very common in some parts of the country, and not too popular in another regions. The biggest problem to play in a band here is the money, you know, we live in a third world country. You can't earn money with metal music in Brazil, so we must to have another job to support our band. Is very hard to be a metal band here."
I'm a bit at a loss as I look at the back cover. There're so many names. But I guess that Alternatyva is the label of yours? What's the firm, never heard of them, frankly spoken?
"No, no, we are an independent band, Alternatyva was a records store here in our city, they were a kind of sponsor of Necroterio. The another names are also little sponsors."
Has your style been evolving throughout the years of NECROTERIO's existence?
"Sure, we are always getting new musical and thematic influences, we started like a splatter grindcore band, today I guess we play a little different style."
Will you find fault if I sate that NECROTERIO is a gore/death band? Do you consider yourselves like that as well?
"You aren't totally wrong, in fact we have some gore/death influences, but it's not all, we have some hardcore influences, and our lyrics are not totally gore. We don't like to label our style, but I think we are between Death metal and Grindcore."
What is the biggest problem for Brazilian bands nowadays, by your own judgement?
"I'm sure that the biggest problem is the lack of professionalism of the most of metal record labels and concert promoters. We don't have many places to play, and the sound equipment is not good in the most of clubs."
Does the date on the tombstone in the graveyard from your cover mean anything particular?
"If you pay attention, it's a really old tombstone, it means that the people die and rot nowadays just like in the past! We cannot escape of death, yesterday, today or tomorrow!"
When the album was recorded? Any plans for further materials?
""Lament of Flesh" was recorded in the beginning of 1999. We are finishing to mix our new album, it will be called " A Rotten Pile of Dead Humans ". We are negotiating with some record labels and we hope to release it next June or July, then we are planning an new European tour."
What's the most popular kind of metal music in Brazil presently?
"I don't know, maybe melodic heavy metal."
Is Brazil infected by so-called new-metal as it seems to be anywhere else?
"I don't think that new metal has a really strong scene here, a lot of people like this kind of music, but, in the most of places, the Brazilian metal fans are very loyal to the traditional styles of metal."
"Lament of Flesh" is really good underground record to me, no doubt. Nevertheless, it's rather obvious you mast be inspired by other bands. What are your favorites then?
"Sure, we are influenced by a lot of bands. My particular favorite bands are: Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Cryptopsy, Dying Fetus, Doom, Extreme Noise Terror, Brujeria, Mortician, Obituary, Groinchurn and a lot of others!!!"
Do you perform live in any other countries apart from Brazil?
"We already did 3 international tours, 2 in Bolivia and Argentine, and a little European tour with gigs in Germany, Czech Rep., France and Belgium."
What are the future goals you're heeding for recently?
"Well, we are working in our new CD, we want to put it out soon, we hope to find a good record label to release it! And then we want to make a big European tour, playing in as many countries as possible (We hope to play in Poland this time). We are planning to record a new video clip too."
