Pieces like those probably go mainly to the ardent maniacs of a given group. They have more of an archaic meaning than any artistic value. I'd rather they spent a bit longer on its songs , worked a bit more on the finishing touches and released everything as one full album and not played a game of releasing a huge amount of unfinished splits. I say those words mainly to Haemorrhage because I cannot say anything bad about Depression. The Germans have presented a well thought-out material, maybe not overly fresh but nicely coming into your head.Such simple death/grind with no fireworks or major show-offs, yet fierceful and shaking the nut at first listen. The Germans recorded 10 of its pieces plus cover Agathocles at a very good level, which proves that they took the recordings very seriously. Unfortunately,I cannot say the same about the Spaniards. A part of their split is live recordings of a very damaged sound value.I am not a fan of live concert recordings that are later polished in the studio but on the other hand I can't bear totally raw sound as presented by Haemorrhage. After all, you have to find a balance. Although the sound leaves a lot to ask for, the very pieces of the Spanish group (including covers of Carcass, Regurgitate, and Impetigo)are incredibly charismatic .I'd prefer to see that stuff with my own eyes at a concert rather that listen to it from a CD. Summing up, only fanatics of an extreme underground music should get the split CD of Depression/Haemorrhage, However,I know that I have a few friends exactly like that so this discussed CD will definetely not be left on the shelf to dust.
