    Slaughtering The Faithful (cd)

Therefore, I am not surprised that the record company are trying to make up for the lost time and are praising the band to the skies in a promotional leaflet.I was, however, very apprehensive about this enthusiastic assessment of "Slaughtering the Faithful" because although this album is good , it is not as good as its predecessors "Cult of the Initiated" or "Bood for the Gods".So what that Erik Rutan was the producer or that Pessimist became even more brutal? The group has lost a lot of its old identity and position. At first listen I did not even recognise this American band.I was surprised at the lack of the mad and furious scream after growling. After all,it has so far been a trade mark of Pessimist.Secondly, the sound of the guitar is at times too weak, unclear and not very convincing. In the first and second album of that group these sounds had a lot more to offer. Here you have huge a mass of sound . In order to fish anything interesting out of it you have to focus very hard. "Slaughtering the Faithful"seems packed with countless amounts of sometimes unnecessary riffs. Something tells me that Pessimist is too much looking up to its pals from eg. Deeds of Flesh (by the way I like them, too), and on the way has lost those elements to which its listeners had got used to in their previous albums. This album could have been better. I was expecting a lot more various and interesting material.Instead, I got too uniform and crappy a package in which I cannot differentiate between the pieces. Maybe next time I will be more generous and I'll give full 10 out of 10.
