The Mother and the Enemy (cd)

I guess I get it, therefore I know the album has something concealed. I just have hope against hope people try to solve the musical puzzle on their own. Firstly, I must share my opinion with you and maintain that even if "The Mother and the Enemy" is profoundly extraordinary and out-of-standard some free comparisons to the others can be easily found. Do not presume I'm trying to find fault with it, not at all. At times (or rather very frequently) it seems to be inevitable. The opener - "Breathe in" - a brief instrumental song breeds undeniable resemblance to Italian MonumentuM, back to '95 when Roberto Mammarella unleashed his majestic "In Absentia Christi" upon the enchanted fans of sonic extravaganza. The other similarities might be two latest accomplishments of Norwegian Ulver (especially "Perdition City") in which typically comprehended metal is really hard to appoint. Nevertheless, LUX OCCULTA have made a huge move towards, rarely perceive nowadays, an absolute originality. These guys simply stir up a hornet's nest and undoubtedly succeeded. But we cannot also forget LUX OCCULTA is constantly a metal band what can be heard in tracks: "Mother Pandora", "Architecture" or "Most Arrogant Life Form", just to hint at the titles. The tangible proofs of harsh riffing, blast-beating and deep throat shrieking ought to be taken seriously grave. This underlines that "The Mother and the Enemy" has nothing to do with a homosexuality! I just cannot get one thing. As you listen to the record you feel like the band changes horses in midstream and the whole thing occurs to be divided into two chapters, the first one - more metal orientated, and the other one - much more contemporary in approach. Was it conscious? I suppose it was, but was it good for coherence of the album as well? I dare to doubt. Although, LUX OCCULTA seems to be in its element, breaking another frontiers in the war against tediousness and trite musical schemas. This album no yardstick can measure, just enable yourselves to flow the stream of individuality and enjoy the figure of eight they draw in your mind. I think with this record LUX OCCULTA has eventually found its own level and that’s the way we should take it. This is, in a sense, an album that has opened the eyes of the world to Polish metal music, which, as it appears to reason, is not only about an ordinary death metal. I'm looking forward to hearing another achievement of theirs. What will it be? Hard to imagine.
