    Into Decimated Reality (CD)

Wydane przez Deepsend RecordsRok wydania 2015Kraj Algeria/ArgentinaNapisał Wouter3Komentarze (0)Devast - Into Decimated RealityIt speaks volumes of how utterly desperate the industry has become when the biggest sales point of a band is their geographical location. Devast was originally based in Algeria but have since relocated to Argentina. "Into Decimated Reality" is the band's second effort, and debut for quality label imprint Deepsend Records. It goes without saying that Deepsend really dropped the ball on this one. Devast really likes Matti Way era Disgorge (the same could be said for the equally horrid/redundant Italian outfit Devangelic) and Origin. For however few things (thick bass guitar tone, adequate singer) the band does right, the majority of "Into Decimated Reality" is one disastrous decision after the next. There's a pointless intro, half of the song titles make little linguistic sense, songs abruptly begin and end without rhyme or reason – and the production is a boxed-in mess that sounds muffled, too loud and doesn't seem to gel at any point or bothers to evenly distribute the different instruments in something at least resembling coherence. Not even the absolutely wonderful Tony Cosgrove artwork can redeem this in any meaningful way. Oh, it's "brutal" and "technical", surely – but those aspects aren't meaningful for a band that couldn't write an engaging song if their lives depended on it. Listen Brodequin, Disgorge (US) or Origin instead if you really want to persist partaking in this brand of inanity. There are far better bands on Deepsend Records than this - this one is not it. Avoid.
