Remember when Brazilian death metal was good? I don’t either. Krisiun is a fucken industry these days, and Scampeltura has been terrible for longer than they have been good. Sure, there was Brazil death metal with bands like Nephasth, Ophiolatry and Rebaelliun, but their combined existence of all but ten seconds wasn’t the thing to be fucken proud about. Then there’s metrosexual shit like Painside that absolutely doesn’t help matters either. It seems that for every Valhalla or Cauterization, there are a dozen of absolutely terrible "modern" death metal bands that no one in the right fucken mind asked for. Holy fucken shit. I’m glad to hear this re-issue cos this doesn’t nearly get the love it deserves. So, yeah. If you are anything like me, and you love your death fucken metal old school this is the band for you. So this "Wicca" album was released in 1992 on a label three people heard of, and was probably hard to find outside of South America. You are telling me this came out two years before "The Diabolic Serenades" in South America, of all fucken places? Makes you fucken wonder how Ancient Rites got away with releasing their first album. Anyway, Mystifier is a Brazilian death/black metal in the tradition of Genocídio, Holocausto, and Sarcófago. For what its worth these old men have been at it for about as long as fucken Scampeltura. So if "Morbid Visions" and "INRI" are your fucken thing you gonna love this. Geez. As I said before, Ancient Rites lifted their ideas wholesale from this feral little piece of extremity. That doesn’t stop it from being absolutely fucken hilarious at times. ‘(Invocacione) The Almighty Satanas’ starts off with an almost two-minute long spoken invocation that is all sort of goofy. These guys are fucken theatrical. Holy fucken shit. The band pictures are a complete hoot, but at least these guys always had a cool logo. Their original logo clearly aped fucken Marduk, and the logo they started using around the new millennium completely fucken owns. I wish more underground metal was like this: unkempt, inebriated and completely fucken out-of-control. Yeah, Krisiun were good once – and you might worship at their altar, I certainly don’t. Good fucken riddance. I’ll be sitting here listening this record and remembering the old days. You probably won’t like this if you are a hipster, or a stupid kid, but who the fuck cares about your opinion in the first place? Fuck you and fuck off.
