Bokluk is a new Death Metal band from Spain but holy shit, does it kick ass or what? It scrapes ass. This kind of heaviness with that grating quality hasn’t come out since perhaps Gruesome Stuff Relish. Bokluk however sounds like early Carnage and Nihilist crossed with Repulsion - it’s overwhelming. In a time when old school bands are too generic, this band stands out with its undiluted vision and crushing heaviness. Obliterating.
The production is like giving an electric shock to the brain. The limbs flail about in a fit while listening to this music. It’s reminiscent of Grave circa "Into the Grave". Yet there are the massive catchy parts, nay, heaving parts where the earth trembles with you. This is essential because you don’t want to listen to a cathartic album that’s essentially Grindcore in its expression. Unless it’s Grindcore of course. So you have a rampaging Death Metal album, raw in its fury and aggression, structured the way it would make sense and have you possessed for a good half hour.
Memento Mori has discovered a fine gem of an album. Most others lack balls. This one’s got spiky ones. It’s bound to make your day. It’s old school, it’s heavier than you’d expect and yet it exudes the charm of listening to something relatively new and fresh - sizzling - that only a few bands are capable of.
