Spain is vibrant as ever this year - there are exceptional releases such as the Domains album, Bokluk’s debut, there’s the new Teitanblood and there are of course the good old or new Death Metal bands. Most of them are content playing Death Metal in the traditional style. Few with the exception of perhaps Domains try to reinvent the wheel. But there’s also something called quality which stands out despite the lack of originality. Morbid Flesh is one of those bands. It’s playing old school Death Metal that is reminiscent of "Clandestine" era Entombed mixed with Unleashed and a good amount of Grave as well. That sounds like a good combination. I’d order for this.
"Embedded in the Ossuary" is a short release, an EP lasting for only about 23 minutes but it’s rather satisfying than a never-ending full length that leaves you only out of boredom. The band has released an album prior to this, an acclaimed one in "Reborn in Death" and has band members of Graveyard, Insulters and Undertaker among others in its line-up. Needless to say, it’s not just another random band. The band knows what it’s doing and it’s doing it quite well although the lack of originality is a tad bothersome. That and predictability. But the band makes up for it by doing almost everything else right - the production sounds sublime and something you could bite your teeth into, the artwork is not in red for a change and the music is of high standard, no doubt.
If you’re looking for some good old Swedish Death Metal with some meat and a well-rounded sound, this is it. This isn’t Swedish but you get my point.
