Oh, wow. A three track, super limited demo tape from Croatia, and it is primitive black metal no less! Odin knows we fucken needed more of that stuff. Not that I have anything against black metal, most of it is just silly, or stupid. Mostly stupid. So, let’s fucken see here. Apparently this Hrid comes from Zagreb, but not a whole lot is known about their line-up – which usually means it’s some one-man band that happened to stumble into a home studio, or the guy got himself his first computer. Who the fuck knows? What is sure is that the world didn’t need this band, or this demo. It’s fucken inoffensive, vanilla and ticks every fucken box imaginable in this particular genre. It’s like a fucken connect-the-dots almost. It’s probably produced a lot better than this genre deserves, or what is usually churned out. That is kinda surprising, since it was released on a label called Triumph Of Death. You know named after that Hellhammer record. Yeah, fucken necro and all that. That still doesn’t mean it is any good, or worth seeking out. I dunno. What fucken attracts people to this kinda stuff? Cos they think the band member burns churches, fucks goats and sacrifices virgins in his spare time? If you find that sort of stuff important you probably need to get your head examined. This stuff usually bores me to tears, and Hrid is marginally better than most. Anyway, this sounds a lot like “Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism” Immortal with Parland-Dark Funeral type melodies. The gravelly vocals are kinda death metal-like. This sounds like a dozen other bands in this genre, and it isn’t really something you haven’t heard before. I’m not even fucken sure what the point of this is supposed to be. So, you understand the basics of Scandinavian black metal? Big fucken deal. Yeah, it has the usual samples of thunderstorms, howling wind, gentle acoustics and all that dumb stuff that continues to persevere. Why not throw in a few simulated battle sounds while you are it? What the fuck more do you want me to say about this?! “Support the underground”? Hahaha, right. No. We don’t need more generic genre bands, we got plenty of those already. That this is “necro, evil and underground”? No. This sounds just like any other band ripping off early Immortal, Burzum and Sargeist. The less I need to hear of this crap, the better. I seriously need to start drinking if this is the direction we’re gonna go. Holy fucken shit.
