Excuse me while I pick my jaw off the fucken floor. I generally don’t expect to be wowed by contemporary death metal anymore. Cos most of it is fucken stupid, boring and hopelessly derivative. But hey, what the fuck do I know, right? Imagine my fucken surprise when I heard this trio from Brazil - and more fucken importantly, the petite blackhaired girl that fronts this band Cauterization and plays the lead guitar. Such a tiny frame, such a thundering voice. She looks like the kind of girl that you want to fucken take home, put in bath and give a hot cup of chocolate milk afterwards just because of her oh so cute sleepy puppy eyes - this Maysa Rodrigues… She is my kind of girl. Holy fucken shit. She has the killer body of Roberta Murgo, and the booming demonic voice of Sylvain Houde. By Odin! After suffering through the gender-confused heavy metal of Painside and the wannabe tough guy deathcore of Lacerated and Carbonized, this is a revelation - a fucken apocalyptic revelation. Hey, it isn’t without its faults either, fuckwits. That intro is completely fucken pointless, and it could have been used far more wisely as an atmospheric break in one of the actual songs here. Not that I’m complaining. Just saying. There’s a guitar solo on ‘Infernal Battlefield’. Odin knows I fucken love a good guitar solo. Get one of the guys from Rebaelliun, Krisiun, Mental Horror or Ophiolatry to donate a guitar solo (or three) on your full album. Okay, boys and girl? Some starpower always helps sell a record or two. Yeah, yeah. The artwork is completely fucken goofy and spectacularly embarrassing, but I get what you’re going for. I really do. Fuck, you can even hear the bass guitar plucking away. Did underground bands finally get the godddamn memo? Thank Odin not everybody in the underground is a clueless fucken buffoon. So, yeah. The bass guitarist does these shrieking Glen Benton screams as backing vocals. Fucken stop that, already. Maysa, Maysa, Maysa. Need I say fucken more? She makes Rachel Heyzer sound like a fucken schoolgirl in comparison. Cauterization was so kind to shoot a promo video for ‘Infernal Battlefield’, so check that the fuck out. It’s not very special, or eye-catching - but you can see Maysa. That should be reason enough, aight?! So, uhm, yeah. If you like the early records of Sinister, Kataklysm, Vital Remains or Incantation, you are gonna love this.
