I was ready to write this band off on the basis of its name. Abominant, really? That’s but one letter away from an old Pyrexia song (from that one good album they have, “Sermon Of Mockery”), but what do you know? This isn’t half bad. No, this is good even. Odin knows a lot of retro-death metal is really fucken stupid. So, when hearing a band like Abominant is really refreshing. Here’s a band that isn’t silly about what it is, and I wouldn’t even go as far as to call this retro. This is death metal, plain and simple. There’s rife influence from early Immolation, early Death, a bit of Bolt Thrower and the whole thing has the feel of a slightly better developed and more melodic Abdicate album. Fuck knows Sevared Records is a really, really wretched label and what they sign is even worse than the average Comatose Music signing, but fuck me – Abominant isn’t on that horrid label and is actually, you know, good. So, yeah. Abominant has been around since the dawn of time... uhm, 1993 apparently and have released more albums than I had girlfriends. Which either means I’m socially a handicapped tool, or they are really fucken terrible with their promotion, if I’m hearing about them just now. No, scratch that. I know exactly why I never heard of these sorry old men with receding hairlines before. They are a lot like Diabolic, the Tampa death metal band. They aren’t terrible (yes, post-Malone Diabolic is indeed fucken terrible), but they aren’t very good either. They are kinda there, cranking out albums year after year. Maybe I’m just a jaded, cynical, elitist prick (yes, I am) – and maybe I’m just tired of this whole thing (for reals?). Fuck knows I’d rather be doing something else right now. This is a Deathgasm release, so it is kinda moot for me to explain to you how this sounds. So yeah, there you have it. “Support the underground” and all that shit. Odin knows most of you are still stupid or gullible enough to believe in such hollow catchphrases. I don’t care. Don’t care. I really don’t care. Don’t care. I saw PushingUpRoses and The Nostalgia Chick have new videos up. I will go and watch that.
