Which band contained at least one Von member but still remained (mostly) tolerable? That’s right, Abscess. I haven’t heard a single Autopsy record since the shitfest that was "Shitfun" (ain’t it fun? No.) Therefore this compilation of split tracks, live recordings and rehearsal material is fun to discover what happened to this bunch of old men, and death metal road dogs since that painful time in the late ‘90s. Now, I don’t particularly care for reunions (like the recent Carcass "reunion", which I continue to refer to as Bill & Jeff’s Excellent Retirement Plan, cos that is what it is) since we all know Obituary has been utterly terrible since 2004, and Suffocation only gets by on the grace of its classic stint. Yeah, Autopsy reformed too and they supposedly released an album or two worthy of their name. Dude, I don’t care. Let me listen my "Severed Survival" and "Mental Funeral" copies and I’ll be on my merry way. Truth be told, I’d rather listen to this bunch of unrelated tracks, and be done with it. In fact, half of the times I listen to this record I just close my eyes and pretend this is a lost Autopsy recording from ‘back in the day’. Chris Reifert is his usual growling self, vomiting and puking his rotten guts out about degeneration, filth and general nastiness. Danny Corralles spews out his usual array of stinking punk- and Black Sabbath inspired riffs, and Joe Trevisano Allen takes care of the low end rumbling, which is mostly that, formless noise. The power of shit compels him. In fact, the good part is, I don’t even need to be drunk to enjoy this. Which is a mighty step up from the other releases I’m supposed to review in this joint here. There’s plenty of crap I still have to go through, don’t worry. I wade through the shit, so you don’t have to. There is no need to thank me, I do this out of the kindness of my heart. No, really. Odin knows how glorious this reviewing gig is. I was talking to a cute Croatian girl the other day. So, uhm, yeah. This is Autopsy... I mean, Abscess – I suppose this is a fun thing if you are a collector, or a fan of what they were peddling. Hell, I don’t even own any other Abscess releases (liar!), and I enjoy this. So, help Chris Reifert and Danny Corralles make a buck on the side, next to their dayjobs and pick up this compilation. I don’t need to tell you how this band sounds, I’m sure you all know that by now. So, there...
