Do you also wonder what you would get if you put some Opera IX and Forgotten Tomb members together and let them write Scandinavian black metal? If you do, then The True Endless might be the band for you. Odin knows that I love me some Opera IX, specifically the Cadaveria era. They play the brand of black metal that excites me. No, really. Thick, bass-heavy death-ish black metal that high on atmosphere and low on speed. We all know most high-speed black metal is fucken terrible. Marco De Rosa (Opera IX) provides lead vocals here, but he sounds like every other black metal singer to my recollection. De Rosa has a serviceable rasp, Soulfucker (the bass player) has breasts. This band formed in 1997 and has more releases than I care to list. So, this band is one of (at least) four bands that share members with the various incarnations of Opera IX. So, what do I call this? A side-project? A parallel-band? Really, we only need one more band to add to this. You can name yourself Call Of the Wood or Born In the Grave. No, really. Do it. Get Lunaris back on keyboards, Marçelo Santos on drums, the girl of this band on bass guitar and have Cadaveria sing, rasp and grunt over it all. Watch the money roll in. Yeah, so this sounds a lot like Opera IX without the sultry mediterranean flair and the atmospheric keyboards, but that is exactly the kind of thing that the scene is missing. The faster sections are sufficiently cold and Scandinavian sounding, not the thing you expect from these fellows. Cos Opera IX was always about not sounding like Scandinavia. Why does every black metal band want to sound Northern? Even the terrible Moonspell understood that sounding mediterranean, continental European and sweltry hot is the way to go on “Wolfheart”. You are Italian, fucken use it to your advantage already! Your bass guitarist doesn’t even need to take her top off, although dropping the corpse paint would be appreciated. Holy crap, it is black metal and it isn’t terrible. Moreover, I’m actually enjoying this. By Odin, I’m not even drunk yet. I better close this up before I start writing an extended love note to Cadaveria (the singer, not the band), the sexiest Italian metaller of them all. I don’t care what you faggots think, this is pretty good stuff.
