What are the first things that come to mind when you think about Denmark? Pastries, Sofie Liv, Hitman and... yes, extreme metal, actually. This is the country that gave us King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Iniquity, Invocator, Konkhra, Panzerchrist and a few lesser gods. Those of you not living in a cave are aware of this band’s lineage to Iniquity, and those of who don’t know Iniquity are clueless idiots anyway. Moving on, this is album numbero four for these guys and they obviously took their sweet time writing it. Not that I’m complaining, just saying. This is pure death metal through and through. No modern trendy influences, no core-isms or other useless tripe nobody wanted. No, this is just straightforward heavy death metal with a lean, mean crunch and no pretense of being anything else than that what it promised. Which is refreshing, that honesty. Too many stupid bands and their sacks of shit band members yap on and on about how cool and interesting they find themselves to be, with nary an idea to show for it. I’d rather take any Corpus Mortale over those poor slobs any day of the week. "FleshCraft" is just very good at what it does. It wastes no time, it sets nothing up without payoff, and most important of all, it doesn’t insult the listener’s intelligence. Odin knows that I hate nothing more than jackalope bands who either juggle subjects too difficult for them to pull off, or who are just too stupid to begin with. In either of those cases, they should be ignored or avoided. Just like Sofie Liv I try to see the good in things and people. And Corpus Mortale restores my faith in humanity ever so lightly. At least there’s proof that not all people are complete and utter tools, or mindless lemmings that just follow whatever fool is deemed GQ or trendy this week. Now if you’ll excuse me, I got Movie Dorkness episodes to watch and complaints to sent to IO Interactive for screwing the Hitman series.
