When I first heard this record I was mildly amused by it, and ready to write it off as another pointless primitive (but decidedly musical) black metal act. Coming back to this record now after some time I look at it from an entirely different perspective. Forget about doing things to please others, indulge in whatever your vice is. Kill does that. While everybody is going more faster, technical, more lifeless, "Burning Blood" just kicks your ass and leaves you bleeding in the street. No, this isn’t some dime-a-dozen Cannibal Corpse clone, nor is it a Six Feet Under tribute band. I’m not sure what this is supposed to be. In a lot of ways this is similar to "The Somberlain" era Dissection, including the vocals. It isn’t quite as accomplished musically/compositionally, that’s why I named it primitive earlier - but it is oh so deliciously raw, so wonderfully underproduced. Not underproduced in the Striborg sense, no. Underproduced as in analog sounding with organic warmth no million dollar digital production can replicate, if ever match. Kill is the antidote against all those stupid bands with their "profound" press statements, their fancy CGI videos and idiot fans who worship the ground they walk on. Screw all of that. That isn’t what metal is about. "Burning Blood" reminds you that metal once was grim, scary and not friendly to stupid mallcore kids with scene haircuts and Affliction t-shirts. It is a stark reminder that things we once took for granted aren’t really that obvious.
