Lovisa Lundmark is my kind of girl. She’s one part Rachel Heyzer and one part Saffron (Republica). The band she has surrounded herself with is at least halfway competent. Not that you would be able to tell that from the beyond stupid album title and its horrible artwork. While there are some metalcore tendencies, the majority of this record seems to rip off Gossow-era Arch Enemy. The problem is that this band is clearly sitting on the fence. Instead of ripping out the melodic death metal full-on, they have the tendency to just do the metalcore thing and be done with it. This band is in two minds, and there seems to be not a brain among them. Decide what band you want be already. The riffing is phoned in and casually uninteresting, the drumming holds down the beat, but that’s about it. Apparently there are two guitarists, but I can for the life of me not find anything what a single guitarist couldn’t pull off. The interplay of harsh and emotional vocals is clearly manipulated in the studio, and that’s okay. Just don’t expect me to complement you for it. Oh yeah, they close the album with a rendition of Type O Negative track ‘My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’, which is so misguided if not only for its unfortunate implications. So, in short, this is tolerable, but not very good no matter how you spin it. The girl can sing. She looks pretty good too. Ditch the metalcore pandering, up the aggression and transform yourself in a real death metal band.
