Some bands are just asking to be ripped to shreds. So, here’s an international metalcore collective fronted by a woman. No, this isn’t Bring Me the Horizon. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. Apparently the members of this band are so insecure that they hide their names and nationalities, only visible member is frontwoman Marja Panic. That is a good choice from a marketing perspective, but that’s about it. Every cliché is in full swing here: stolen At the Gates riffs, groove metal pandering, staccatos, the feeling of the average Lamb Of God record, alternating harsh and ‘emotive’ vocals, some keyboards, and bouncy rhythm sections to keep the pits going. Excuse me if I don’t exactly fall out of my chair from excitement. We’ve heard this thing before. It isn’t new and it was never really any good to begin with. As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour, Killswitch Engage and Poison the Well do this better, although that’s a relative term. The Way Of Purity and the metalcore subgenre they represent are living on borrowed time. How long can you pillage the early albums of At the Gates, In Flames or more recent bands like God Forbid, Pantera and Skinlab before people take notice? Oh yeah, this unit is Christian too, which is always a plus. There’s nothing better than a bunch of religious whackjobs getting their hands on instruments and feeling they are on a divine mission. If only this stupid band would get to the point and, you know, actually do something. There’s lots of building up, but no notable payoff. Despite all the noise they make there’s nothing going on. It’s all perfectly functional, but when did that become a compliment? No wonder these guys wish to remain anonymous, as it must be embarrassing to be associated with a band as worthless as this. I suppose there are dumb kids out there who will probably love this, but they are kids. Kids are stupid anyway. Marja would be better off doing something else. Like singing in a choir or modeling.
