These bruisers from Denver, Colorado are now releasing their second album for Comatose Music. Mike Poggione (Monstrosity) used to play bass on their first album "A Feast For the Wretched" but has since defected. This is reasonably technical high-speed death metal with a dual vocal assault that is fairly typical for the genre and for the label it is released on. Execration blast through the material with reckless abandon, influences of Origin and Hate Eternal are obvious, but since there are no guitar leads/solos or bass breaks its hard to tell the tracks apart. The album is brutal, relentlessly so even - but brutality and instrumental proficiency alone isn’t what it takes to make a good genre album. The riffing is fast and incredibly technical, yet nowhere do the riffs or patterns sound hateful or evil. "The Acceptance Of Zero Existence" is entirely bereft of malevolent atmosphere that made the early ‘90s death metal so great. It is clinical in its precision and breakneck in its execution, but misses that spirit as so many modern day death metal albums. The sterile and lifelessly digital production job doesn’t help either, as it is flat and impotent sounding. With a booming, meatier production this record would have sounded absolutely massive and obliterating. A record like this would sound so much better and warmer with a healthy amount of bass-heaviness, heft or just plain bass presence. It would help tremendously if the bass guitar could actually be heard and the drums wouldn’t sound like an out-of-control typewriter, plus it would beef up this band’s remarkable aural assault. Execration is on the verge of potentially great things, if only they would work out these minor productional missteps.
