It’s strange how two bands can sound so different, yet be so similar in essence. Göatfukk and Martelo Negro are two sides of the same coin. Both play a thrashing punk-ish strain of black metal that hail the ancient masters of the genre. Bathory, Venom and (early) Impaled Nazarene ("Latex Cult") have clearly influenced this unit. In comparison to their countrymates Göatfukk is far more versatile, acrobatic and cutthroat in its assault. Sure, the rhythms all sound a bit similar and the punk riffing is, by design, limited in construction - but "Procession Of Forked Tongues" sounds a lot more lively and aggressive than the album Martelo Negro put out recently. Where Martelo Negro appears to be forever locked in a midpaced groove, Göatfukk play much faster and aren’t afraid to let things rip. Since this is only an EP it isn’t much of a problem that the material is a bit samey. The overall intensity, the brash attitude and high energy level compensate for the lack of any real variety in the songmaterial. It also helps that Göatfukk are far more interesting vocally. Along with long-standing black/thrashers Decayed, this unit is definitely one of the more interesting Lusitian underground acts.
