Krisiun’s pre-"Black Force Domain" (their 1995 debut) material hasn’t been widely available for years. Century Media has noticed this and is now re-issueing the band’s early material in the form of "Arise From Blackness". This compilation comprises of partly the "Unmerciful Order" EP and all tracks of the "Curse Of the Evil One" split with Violent Hate. The 2004 "Bloodshed" EP already covered the entire "Unmerciful Order" part, so it is a bit puzzling why not the entire "Bloodshed" EP was included, instead of the current four songs. A lot of things can be said about Krisiun. They are rigorously consistent, for one thing. They never let up, ever. Even this earliest material is bestially violent and demonic sounding. Third, and most important: they always were ambitious. Even this early there are glimpses of what would later make them famous. That coupled with extensive global touring, it is no surprise that these three Brazilian brothers eventually became as big as they are now. As a document of Krisiun’s early years and style, this is an interesting compilation. Now more than ever it is apparent that Krisiun has become more accessible over the years. Not that they have mellowed in any perceptible sense, mind you, but there’s an obvious stylistic departure. From "Works Of Carnage" onwards the Brazilian brothers have become more anthemic, melodic and less about full-on speed and blasting in their repertoire. Whether this is good or bad depends wholly on one’s preferences. It is by no means a vital release, but interesting for die-hard fans and completists. Pick this up while supplies last. Behold the Kings of Killing.
