Did High On Fire turn too much into Motörhead the last years? Did the Sleep reunion come about out of artistic necessity, the death of integrity or just as as plain and obvious cashgrab? Probably. It also explains why there is a sudden influx of early Sleep and High On Fire worship bands. Here’s a bunch of random dopesmoking nobodies from Germany. With enough reverb, feedback and a lot of no-good, alcohol driven swagger but barely adequate instrumental skill this unit somehow managed to cut their second record. They actually were able to lay off the weed long enough to commit something to tape. Yes, this is heavily influenced by the slower and smoked out moments of Black Sabbath’s legendary self-titled debut. But that’s where similarities end. The other moments it borrows from High On Fire’s "The Art Of Self-Defense" that it is surprising that Matt Pike didn’t actually sue these guys from plagiarism. In fact, the production job and vocal cadences on here are almost identical to that High On Fire record. Not that it is bad. No, just very unoriginal, cheap and a bit lazy when you’re being honest with yourself. Not that I’m complaining. The record starts out too obvious, but gets better deeper in. Just don’t expect a hell lot of replay value here. It does what it does and then creeps out, limping somewhat. Kinda like that one uncle in your family, who’s always telling dirty stories, smoking funny cigarettes and drinking too much beer at parties. Shaking his fist in a virulent rage and yelling inane obscenities and profanities. You know the guy is no good, but you can’t avert your gaze. If you have someone like that in your family or circle of friends, well, then you’ll probably like this band too. It’s kinda embarrassing and definitely lowbrow, but oh so much fun.
