Valborg, the atmospheric death metal act featuring Klabautamann guitarist/bassist Florian Toyka on drums, is one of these more prominent entities within the Zeitgeister inner circle. The band is completed by Jan Buckard (vocals, bass) and Christian Kolf (vocals, guitars). As with past records this album is more about feeling and atmosphere than about speed and technicality. The tempo is midpaced to slow with riffing heavily indebted to early Celtic Frost and US doom act Winter. The vocals are heroic spoken or more somber chants. Valborg clearly draws inspiration from the earliest records of UK doom triumvirate Anathema, My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. As melodies unfold slowly these songs take time to grip the listener. What appears to be deceptive simplicity is in actuality a combination of clever dynamics and well-thought out arrangements. As per tradition with Zeitgeister the prevalent sound is that of classic doom metal. Undoubtly, "Under the Cross’ is one of the most brutal cuts Valborg has ever written to date. "Nekrodepression" is dedicated to one Diedrich Hünten and the first to be sung almost entirely in German. Recorded on analogue equipment at Stonehenge Studios with producer Oliver Weiskopf. Mastered by Tom Kvalsvoll at Strype Audio (Emperor, Limbonic Art, Svartahrid, Zyklon) in Oslo, Norway.
