This new promo EP from Hellenic combo Burial Hordes is a solid addition to their catalogue of no-frills Scandinavian black metal. This promo contains one track from the band’s split with Enshadowed, two tracks from the 2012 "Descent" EP and one track from the 2006 "11 Years Of War & Revenge" album. The material of this promo is similar to their "Devotion Of Unholy Creed" release in the sense that it is heavily indebted to (early) Bathory, Hellhammer/Celtric Frost and the earliest works by Immortal and Enthroned. And the biggest downfall of "Devotion Of Unholy Creed" once again comes into play with this new promo/EP. As savage and barbaric as Burial Hordes presents its music, it remains a painfully average affair on the whole. Like so many underground black – and death metal units the band is well-rehearsed, a tight-knit unit and competent on their chosen instruments, but that’s about it. "Promo 2012" is a solid black metal offering on all aspects, but with hundreds of bands the world over pledging alliance to this substyle it is hard to get noticed and remain relevant.
