Colombia has given the international scene some interesting acts. From the mystical high speed death metal (Internal Suffering) or plain death metal (Belial), to ominous occult black/death metal (Inquisition) and shrieking black metal (Horncrowned, Utuk Xul) – one thing is certain: Colombia can easily equal itself with Brasil in terms of sheer brutality and unrelenting savageness. King is a death metal act from Colombia who debut with "Forged By Satan’s Doctrine". Influences of pre-"Works Of Carnage" era Krisiun and pre-"Domination" era Morbid Angel are obvious, while the double-tracked vocals remind of early Deicide. One thing that stands out negatively is the ridiculous lyric sheet and obnoxiously cheesy anti-religious song titles. ‘No Pray, No Mercy, Just Death (Unpromised Satan)’ or ‘Kill the Posers Like Fucking Christians’ aren’t exactly going to instill anyone that this is a band to take seriously, at least not on the lyrics front. Considering this band’s influences this record sounds exactly like you’d expect. It’s heavy, it’s fast as hell and hellbent on pissing on as many holy houses as possible – but that’s about it. Tracks 10 and 11 are taken from the "Nonlaughter - Zero Fucking Happiness" EP. The CD also contains live videos of ‘The Ruthless Attitude of Evil Sobervia’ and ‘When the Walls of Heaven Turn in Black.’ "Forged By Satan’s Doctrine" is a solid, if not unremarkable, South American death metal record like there were many in the past and like there will be more in the future. Krisiun, Mental Horror, Ophiolatry and Rebaelliun laid the template for this in the mid-to-late ‘90s, so it is hardly a novelty. Nevertheless, fans of the genre might find this of interest. Good, but not great.
