Do you also long for that long forgotten time when punk rock and hardcore wasn’t commercialized, sterilized and streamlined by the mainstream? Like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Dead Kennedys, Discharge, The Exploited and The Sex Pistols before them NY punks Seizure Crypt combine the high energy of punk with the socio-political lyrics of hardcore. The dual vocal attach adds to the excitement and while the material sounds a bit samey, there lots of fun to be had with this record. Recorded quickly in a mere 4 days the production is as crude and honest as it gets. Seizure Crypt might not possess the big hooks of a Pennywise, the brash street swagger of early Pro-Pain or the vocal cadences of Sex Pistols – they complement that with their workman-like honesty and their no-frills approach to songwriting. This is just ugly, loud and honest music played by people who clearly love what they do. The design, lay-out and presentation is a lot better compared to the 2008 release "Under the Gun". While there’s room for improvement on various fronts "You’ve Been Had!" marks a significant leap forward in the right direction for this NY combo. "You’ve Been Had!" is no game changer, but if you long for the golden days of punk and hardcore, this record will be like a homecoming. It’s brash, it’s dirty, but it’s also brutally honest and genuinely exciting.
