Hailing from Bolivia the idiotically named Satanic Bloodspraying debut on Hells Headbangers with a record that could have come straight out of Australia in the early 1990s. That is to say, “At the Mercy Of Satan” is heavily indebted to Bestial Warlust, Corpse Molestation and Deströyer 666 without having the primitive charm of the former or the technical finesse of the latter. The true question, however, is what justifies the existence of this album. The style has been pioneered by the earlier mentioned acts and perfected by the likes of Angelcorpse, Abominator and several others. Satanic Bloodspraying have nothing of note to add to the template of the masters. Sure, it is merely 25 minutes in length, it is brazingly brutal and the South American do-or-die spirit looms over it in all its repugnant glory – but is that enough to warrant a worldwide release? Nifelheim, Venom, Impaled Nazarene and Bathory are the clearest amongst the band’s influences. People who gorge on anything worshipping the ancient masters will find a lot to like here. Those who dig deeper will discover a serviceable genre record but little more than that. “At the Mercy Of Satan” is far from the worst exercise in the genre, but it begs the question: how many of these clone bands will it take before people go out and find the genuine article? If you truly want to know what this genre is supposed to be played like than it is recommended you snatch up a copy of “Hammer Of Gods” (Angelcorpse), “Blood & Valour” (Bestial Warlust) or “Violence Is the Prince of This World” (Deströyer 666).
