    When Depravity Incarnates ()

Wydane przez Self-financedRok wydania Kraj FinlandNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Abhordium - When Depravity IncarnatesIn a world that is flooded with amateurish to mediocre releases from both labels and independent outfits, a world where every underground band sounds like hundreds of others and copying one successful unit into oblivion is the modus operandi, it is a breath of fresh air to hear an act as convincing as Abhordium. Not since Denmark’s Iniquity has a band so convincingly combined technical chops with melody and headcrushing brutality. The vocals sound as a mix between Glen Benton in the early days of Deicide and Corpsegrinder-era Monstrosity. The songstructures are ambitious and the technical sections do not distract from the songs. What a lot of contemporary death metal acts are missing is something what Abhordium has in spades: atmosphere. “When Depravity Incarnates” delivers just what its title promises: a dark and hateful mood of incessant obscurity and desperation. In terms of riffing, chord progressions and overall density Abhordium are akin to Spawn Of Possession and Theory In Practice. The only thing lacking are some well-placed chaotic and abstract leads/solos on bass and/or guitar to further individualize these cuts more. Not since Finland’s legendary Demilich has an act sounded do chaotic, weird and strangely melodic. The production is wonderfully bass-heavy but dry on the whole. The drums aren’t too triggered and the kickdrums actually sound organic here. There aren’t an awful lot of independent releases worth mentioning and actively recommending, but Abhordium are the exception to the rule. This is a record you want to hear. Never has Finnish death metal sounded so utterly depraved and menacing.
