    Gods Of Death ()

Wydane przez Hells HeadbangersRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Cianide - Gods Of DeathCianide is one of the old ambassadors of the US death metal scene along with acts such as Master, Necrophagia and Deceased. “Gods Of Death” is Cianide’s first batch of new material since 2005 formidable “Hell’s Rebirth”. Despite their second-tier status Cianide have always had a profound influence on the international death metal scene. The riffing is in the tradition of Celtic Frost, Hellhammer and (early) Death. As always Cianide succeed in creating a dense, claustrophobic sound that harnesses their unearthly heaviness with passages of doom and gloom. Where a lot of bands today play as fast as humanly possible Cianide derives their strength from their refusal to play at these inhuman tempos and create a brooding dark atmosphere through devastating snail paced excursions. Most of the cuts here are slow-moving midpaced crushers that crawl under the listener’s skin and reveal their true force upon repeated listening sessions. First and foremost this is a record drenched in atmosphere, something sorely lacking in the genre these last years. Cianide, much like the first few Asphyx records, create an atmosphere of darkness, doom and disgust through relative simple means. Riffs, chord progressions and songstructures serve not to display technical prowess, but to accentuate a feeling of despair, hatefulness and obscurity. Mike Perun’s vocals are gruff, growled but always remain discernable. Opener ‘Desecration Storm’ and ‘Rising Of the Beast’ are relatively fast paced tracks that beautifully display Cianide’s strength with its militant drumming, chugging but melodic guitar riffs and backbreaking rhythm sections. The bass-heavy production is warm and organic, not relying on studio effects or drum triggers. Cianide is clearly the product of an older generation of death metal that caters to different sensibilities. One that doesn’t quite get the love that it rightfully deserves and while Cianide might never be the most critically acclaimed or loved band in the global metal scene, their relevance and importance only becomes clearer with each consecutive record they put out.
