    Slayer (ep)

Wydane przez Herrie RecordsRok wydania Kraj HollandNapisał Wouter6Komentarze (0)Massive Assault - SlayerDutch act Massive Assault has been one of the premier purveyors of the classic Swedish (Stockholm) death metal sound of the last years. After releasing material on Crashlanding Records and Sonic Rendezvous this EP, which is the follow-up to 2009’s “Dystopian Prophecies”, is the first to be released on the band’s own label imprint. Much like their preceding offerings the “Slayer” EP reeks of worship of the sounds popularized by the likes of (early) Entombed, Nihilist, Necrophobic and Unleashed. Bereft of any modern influences this is classic Swedish death metal done in a true-and-tested formula. Like so many acts these days this Dutch act tries to recreate an atmosphere and time (unfortunately) long gone. Better than most Massive Assault recreate the Stockholm sound that made Sweden a force on the international metal map. In today’s climate of musical globalization regional sounds are too often quickly forgotten. It’s good to see more bands remembering the old genre records and trying to recreate that peculiar magic. Massive Assault certainly were doing it a lot earlier than some of today’s supposed supergroups and side-projects, so their hearts are in the right place. Original it is not, but it serviceable to say the least. The artwork combines usual death metal imagery with the movie poster of the Oliver Stone Vietnam war epic “Platoon”.
