Reckless Manslaughter formed in 2008 and that shows in their songwriting. “Storm Of Vengeance” is a disparate mix of ideas and sounds showcased earlier by better and more accomplished bands. The band note Asphyx, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel and Suffocation amongst their inspirations, but none of these influences shine through in any meaningful way. Like so many contemporary death metal acts this unit is so eager to release something that important evolutional stages seem to be skipped altogether. This record contains more than a semblance of a handful of ideas worth exploring further. Yet Reckless Manslaughter cram their cuts so full of different and disparate ideas that cohesion is lost in the process. Beyond visceral brutality there’s nothing, either lyrically or conceptually, that ties these cuts together. “Storm Of Vengeance” is a decent little death metal record that will appeal to their regional fanbase and strengthen their profile there. Seen on the global market this record just isn’t brutal, remarkable or exceptional enough to warrant anything but a conforming nod from the bands that inspired this collective. In fact Reckless Manslaughter remind of their countrymates Debt Of Nature in the sense that their music is rife with influences and bounces along nicely, yet nowhere do they take any of these directions far enough to truly make their music convincing.
