    Still the Sun ()

Wydane przez Self-financedRok wydania Kraj HollandNapisał Wouter8Komentarze (0)Satinoxide - Still the SunHolland has always had somewhat of a pedigree in progressive – and symfo metal with bands such as The Gathering, Orphanage and Sun-Caged. Satinoxide is a relatively new progressive metal band from Zeeland, the Netherlands formed by former members of symphonic metal band Cassiopeia. Satinoxide is equally indebted to both genres as, in general, the material of “Still the Sun” is mostly reminiscent of “Enter” era Within Temptation, but with a decidedly more progressive and more musically accomplished slant. Unlike that band and other contemporaries such as Orphanage, Satinoxide is less reliant on keyboards, orchestrations and synthesizers – instead being more guitar-driven and thus by definition heavier from the onset. The record is mostly midpaced with a prominent role for the piano, performed by Marloes Matthijssen and lead singer Oscar Postema. Frontman Oscar Postema possesses a wide vocal range including grunts, whispers and emotional clean vocals. “Still the Sun” was partly inspired by Buddhism and the Tibetan book of the Dead. The record features session studio drums by Textures’ percussionist Stef Broks. Another notable guest musician is Thorwald Jorgensen who provides the theremin on ‘Throbbing Pulse Of Death’. Mixing and mastering was done by Jochem Jacobs (Textures) in Split Second Sound Studio. “Still the Sun” isn’t a record that aims to be the most brutal, instead it focuses on excellent musicianship and forward thinking songcraft. Finally a Dutch ensemble that recaptures the spirit and mood of The Gathering’s “Mandylion” while soundering thoroughly unique and captivating. Exceptional.
