This act from Denver, Colorado took their name from a track culled off High On Fire’s 2002 album “Surrounded by Thieves” but there’s were similarities end. This record sounds like a mix between Mötorhead (“Ace Of Spades”, “Bomber”, “Orgasmatron”) with a dash of early Iron Maiden and the brash hardcore attitude of Discharge. The vocals are mostly what give this band an old school punk/hardcore vibe, as musically this is pretty much a trip down memory lane. Speedwolf incorporates elements of Bay Area thrash (Metallica’s debut “Kill ‘em All” most prominently) upon a foundation of NWOBHM such as Iron Maiden, Saxon and Judas Priest. Speedwolf is a breath of fresh air in a scene where every band copies another and were traditional influences are treated as dusty old relics from a long bygone era. “Ride with Death” is hardly a work of originality as much as it a work of passion and perseverance. In a scene flooded by copycats, pretenders to the throne and soulless tribute/retro outfits it is hard for any act to get noticed on a much larger scale.
