Inspired by Grave (from whence they took their moniker), Dismember, Necrophobic and Unleashed "Dead Lovers' Guide" is nothing but an extended lovenote records such as "Into the Grave", "Like An Everflowing Stream", "The Nocturnal Silence" and "Shadows In the Deep". The vocals are reminiscent of former Monstrosity singer Jason Avery. The delivery is spirited and the execution is, musically, exemplary across the board. Brutally Decased is a band not to flaunt its technical prowess, something which wouldn't feel right in this genre to begin with. Like the old masters Brutally Deceased stomp, grind and groove to like the best of them, with the difference that their songs actually have a direction and the record has a good flow because of that. The pace is often changed and the doom-ish dark sections greatly amplify the band's more malevolent and fast material. The production is solid and mimics the Sunlight Studios sound (made famous by resident producer Tomas Skogsberg) to an unreal degree. The artwork, design and lay-out aren't too special but serve their purpose good enough. While Brutally Deceased is hardly reinventing the wheel "Dead Lovers' Guide" is a nice little throwback record to the classic Swedish death metal sound of old.
