    Orgy Of Murder ()

Wydane przez Brutal Bands RecordsRok wydania Kraj USANapisał Wouter7Komentarze (0)Gorgasm - Orgy Of MurderOne of the original Chicago death metal acts Gorgasm, who formed in 1994, released an EP (1998's "Stabwound Intercourse") and two full lengths (2001's "Bleeding Profusely" and 2003's "Masticate to Dominate") before splitting up in 2004. Since then the band duly reformed and released a promo in 2006, as a prelude to their proposed third full length "Destined to Violate", which never came to fruition. After relocating to Lafayette, Indiana Gorgasm reformed with a mostly new line-up, including Human Filetted members Kyle Christman (drums) and Ryan Saylor (guitars). The most notable members of the previous line-up (guitarist Tom Tangalos, bassist Russ Powell and drummer Derek Hoffman) have since united in the Chicago-based Peshmerga, who released an album through Sevared Records. "Orgy Of Murder" (which for a long time went with the working title "KuntKiller") is the first batch of new songs since the reformation. Gorgasm has always, somewhat justly, been written off as a second-tier act within the US scene and "Orgy Of Murder" isn't going to change that. Most tracks here barely clock over three minutes in length, are bereft of any additional bells and whistles and display a capable but ultimately workmanlike band. Stylistically, this is similar to Fleshgrind ("Murder Without End") and Cannibal Corpse, circa "The Bleeding" with the occasional bit that reminds of (early) Suffocation. The performances are exemplary but hardly remarkable, the bassist is hardly going to be mistaken for Alex Webster or Tony Choy and while most tracks are viscerally intense and make no mistake about bludgeoning the listener with their assault, they also lack the depraved atmosphere and darkness that Cannibal Corpse channeled on the landmark "The Bleeding" record. For all intents and purposes Gorgasm continue to prove their relevance as an old ambassador of the US death metal scene. It's no game-changer, but definitely a thoroughly enjoyable record.
